Angry Manual map update - (NO_VIN) error

I'm trying to download the map manually and last 3 days i try to download and i keep getting the same error.
I try to report this error and that page to report is returning 404 error Why is this so hard to do simple things with MB?

The service is unavailable for technical reasons.

I have to agree with you about doing things with Mercedes. I manually downloaded the latest maps since I haven’t receive any OTA automatic map updates in 18 months of ownership. (I was on version 13, version 19 is the latest update.) I tried first with my Apple laptop and after a few hours of trying to load the maps I finally was successful in loading the usb stick, only to have the system tell me the files were corrupt when I loaded the stick into the car. I was then unable to open the Mercedes downloader to try again. Probably wasted over 3 hours. I then tried the process on my dell desktop and everything worked fine and got the maps updated.
I could never find any detailed instructions on how to load the maps into the car, ie any usb port? Does car have to be turned on?? I think you have to have car turned on because I loaded the stick at night with the car on and turned car off and 10 hours later the next morning the maps had stopped loading.
I also have issues with the 2 OTA updates I have received since I’ve owned the car. One was for suspension updates. Says it helps with parking but doesn’t tell how. I had an issue with car and just had it in for service and asked my service advisor what the update did. He had no clue. He said Mercedes keeps them in the dark too about just what these updates do. How would one know if you wanted to download the update without knowing what it does to the car. Especially since I saw some feedback after forum members downloaded the suspension update and didn’t like how the car handled after the update.

Just chiming in to add that I'm seeing the same error code, and the 404 error when trying to report the error to Mercedes Me support. I hope you decide to call this in so I don't have to

I generally don't have issues, but the site appears to be broken at the moment. The map update page doesn't even load for me. Doing it on a Mac is problematic, though, because macOS writes additional files to the volume which you have to delete afterwards, otherwise it won't load in the car. This issue doesn't exist if you use Windows, as the supported disk formats are native to Windows. I use NTFS usually and it has always worked, but macOS can't write to a NTFS partition, so you have to use exFAT and as said with exFAT, macOS writes a bunch of additional attribute files to the disk that confuse the Infotainment system. Apple products work great as long as you stay in the Apple ecosystem, but as soon as you need to interoperate with non-Apple systems, it becomes a pain.

i have tried on Mac, Windows 10 and 11. Next may be Ubuntu, Xenix, Sco Unix

It's a system replete with bugs. Once out of exasperation I asked my MB dealer to update the maps because my attempts had failed, also over days, which I've since learned is usually b/c my house is too rural to get a good satellite signal. It took MB 6 hours to update maps inside their shop with a great satellite signal and any other necessary computer equipment at hand, and they expressed the same degree of frustration. It's just not an infallible system. Be thankful you weren't lost and needed your navi system on an emergency basis.

I think you mean cellular signal.
There is actually a setting in MBUX to use Wifi (and you pick which Wifi network to use) instead of cellular to download large update.

Perhaps, but that doesn't explain why the dealership couldn't download the maps either with all that's available to it.

Just got a notification email that new map updates are available for my 2019 C63S. FWIW, they are currently downloading w/o issues.

I had the exact same issue in May.
I called Mercedes Customer Service and asked them to create a case for me.
This issue persisted for over two months, during which I was unable to download the map. I tried again last night, and it finally worked, although I did not receive any notification from Mercedes Customer Service or support.

I suggest you try downloading the map again or contact Mercedes Customer Service to create a case and escalate the issue.

I opened a case with Mercedes Customer Service. A few hours later the issue was resolved and I was able to download the update (Windows 10 - Chrome Browser). I am now going out to my car to install the Version 19 update for Nevada.


Edit: the installation went fine. I plugged the thumb drive into the USB C port and the system detected it and started the install.

I just bought the Digitzal extra and went to download Online map update to find the error as below...
The service is unavailable for technical reasons.

I Also am receiving this error. Mercedes told me my maps were not available yet.

Update. Navigation is up and running. Shout out to Mercedes Benz of Durham. Long story short, bad hard drive . Dealer installed current version of maps. Now the website is allowing me to manually update as well as set home region.

I'm getting this error since my dealer updated the Navigation software in my 2023 S580. Based on this thread, did the issue finally resolve itself for you guys?

Hard Drive in the Car or your PC?
I downloaded the US East coast on a stick and it downloaded fine. That was in January 2026.
Some little Issues with the download from Mercedes Server to my Macbook pro, but probably user error (me).
