Hands on Wheel Warning

Does anyone have issues with the steering wheel sensors relating to hands on the wheel? I keep getting the signal to grab the wheel, yet
my hands are on the wheel. It's very annoying and disrupts the radio as well. If so, are there any solutions?

Does this vehicle use eye trackers though?

interesting that you ask that question. Yes, it has eye trackers and my steering wheel position interrupts its view and I get the warning to res position the steering f wheel which I ignore. Do you think it’s related ?

It could be but I find it strange it is prompting you to put your hands on the wheel to show you are paying attention when all you are supposed to do is look forward. At least that is what I heard.

That said, if it can't detect your eyes because of the steering wheel maybe it does change back to the telling you to touch the steering wheel prompt. So it might indeed be the reason why.

How come this has no mention on the six dots I mean the infrared eye tracker (also what the 6 dots positioning steering wheel icon is for)

The owners manual is available to anyone so check it out. I'm sure that is covered as well.

I had to turn off active steering assist, because it kept giving me false positives every time I moved my hands in the slightest.

Capacitive sensor in wheel AND eye tracking

I struggled with this on long straight highways for a long time until I got frustrated enough to find an engineer to figure it out. Series of tests with weights, elastic bands and other tools led them to find that there is likely some form of electrical capacitive sensor in the wheel. On a closed road with professional driver, if you tightly bind a strip of tin foil to the outside edge of the steering wheel and then tightly hold the foil in your hand, (while keeping your eyes on the road) you will never get a “hands on the wheel” warning. But it is finicky and sometimes a light squeeze of the wheel is still needed. The longer the foil, the more the resistance, the worse the performance. Entirely impractical for driving. But it revealed that the way you hold the wheel and how much skin contact there is MAY effect the sensors and the false alarm rate.

My wife says the sweet spot for her GLE63's (I know, not an EQSm but I bet they have similar steering wheel technologies), is in the lower left quadrant, between the 6 and 9 o'clock position. She can rest her thumb in that area, and even if not touching the steering wheel, the car doesn't freak out about not having hands on the wheel.

I have gotten this warning before, but a light touch with my left hand canceled the warning.

I did, just this weekend. I figured out that because my steering wheel was too low, it couldn't see my eyes. It kept saying that I needed to raise the steering wheel until I see the dots at the top of the screen. Then, it stopped giving me that warning. I thought the sensors in the steering wheel were not working. That seemed to do the trick.
