How to use hands free tailgate? Kick only unlock the tailgate, but won't pop open.

I still can't figure how to get the handsfree tailgate to swing up/open with a kick. I kick it and the tailgate unlocks and pop open but won't swing up. I had to push the emblem to get it to swing up. How does this thing work with mercedes?

Sounds like it is stuck for some reason, if it is responding to you that means you did the kick gesture correctly just for some reason something is preventing it from opening.

Yeah, seems kinda weird. If i push the emblem it will swing up. I guess I might need to try step back after I kick. Will try again next time I am using the car.

oh wait does it play a chime, maybe you did a second swipe so it stopped mid way, but even if you accidentally do that once, the chances of you accidentally doing it multiple times seems slim, no?

Here, try something I call reverse kick, see if it helps: https://mbworld.org/forums/w213-amg/...ml#post9082263

No chime or sound. I guess if it sounded, it's an error indicator i suppose? Let me also try your "Reverse kick" lol.

Let me know if it worked for you.

no, there is supposed to be a chime that indicates that kick to open function was activated although I think it only activates it when you lower it, if you press the button to drop the tailgate, it won't sound a chime.

That gives me an idea, did you at least try opening the tailgate the traditional way (via holding the button on the keyfob or the lifting the driver side button) to confirm something isn't blocking the sensor or stopping it from opening?

As well as the button right below the star at back of the vehicle. Just press it once and release.

Oh wait, you have an EQS, then lift the rear badge, that opens the tailgate as well. The same badge that pops out the backup camera. You just push the top of the star in for the bottom portion of the star to lift up. Although I think you knew this already.

Yes, the tailgate opens if I press the star/emblem. It also close when I press the red close button under the hatch.

I went out to test with the reverse kick, and it does the same thing, just unlocks the hatch, but won't move up. I try opening with the keyfob and it does the same thing, doesn't swing up. Keyfob also doesn't close the hatch, not sure if it does. Feels like this is a setting somewhere.

It almost sounds like the restrict height is set and for some reason was set to to as low as possible, try forcing the tailgate open completely manually then press and hold the lower tailgate button until you hear beeps.

Or better yet, open the tailgate with the star, then manually lift it to the highest position (unless you have a low garage ceiling) then press and hold the lower tailgate button (not the lock button) until you hear beeps.

Two short tones means the feature is disabled, one short tone means the feature is activated to whichever height the tailgate was when you activated the feature.

So, my keyfob and the inside car button won't open/close the tailgate, same thing only hear the lock unlatch, but tailgate won't swing up. So basically, the only way to have it auto open is to press the star/emblem.
I did try to adjust the heigh, there is no beep sound or anything. I hold the button for some seconds and the height is adjusted fine. I am at a lost. My dealership near me here suck ***** (tech is super incompetent), i bet they will tell me its normal, so hopefully i can figure this out.

Do you mean that how high the liftgate opens are different between the 3 ways to open it? embled = height 1, keyfob = height 2, kick. = height 3, inside door button = height 4 ? I really hope it's not that complicated.

Strange, yes it shouldn't be complicated, the height restriction limit should sync across all methods of opening. Try turning on mbux and "Hey Mercedes" say: Height restriction and see if there is a menu to set height restriction.
