Just proof that unless you must have an AMG badge its really not worth it. Basically, despite all the AMG badges, its a 580 with a boost mode and a limiter raised to 155 instead of 130. Meanwhile you trade that marginal improvement in speed "stats" for almost 1/3 of range. All the while paying 20k for the honor. Thanks, but no thanks.
The AMG is half a second faster than the 580 even without the boost mode engaged. That's a considerable amount.
The most important factor leading to the industry decline this year is owners perception of their vehicles fuel economy, said David Amodeo, director of global automotive at J.D. Power. "The study was fielded as fuel prices were experiencing a meteoric rise, and that pinch at the pump is conveyed in lower vehicle satisfaction. Battery-electric vehicles have not been negatively affected by the increase in fuel costs but do have issues related to battery range and charging time.
Some BEVs have bucked that trend, though. The recently launched Kia EV6 compact SUV and Mercedes-Benz EQS large premium car are two BEV models that rank highest in their respective segments. However, most segment leaders in emotional appeal are conventional gasoline-powered cars, trucks, vans and SUVs. Newcomers to the market that top their segments are the Jeep Wagoneer large SUV, Jeep Grand Wagoneer large premium SUV, Kia Carnival minivan, Genesis GV70 compact premium SUV and Hyundai Santa Cruz midsize pickup. Electrified vehicles are not as appealing as gas vehicles: Hybrid vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) have lower composite APEAL Index scores than conventional gasoline-powered vehicles. The score for PHEVs is 835 and is 832 for hybrids. In comparison, the composite index score for gasoline-powered vehicles is 846. Battery-electric vehicles (excluding Tesla) also underperform gasoline vehicles in APEAL with an index score of 838. Tesla vehicles are summarized separately from the BEV composite score because the brand's dominance in the category would skew the results of all other BEVs. It is important to understand that certain attributes of Tesla models continue to outperform other BEVs, though there are notable challengers emerging such as the Mercedes-Benz EQS.
In researching new-vehicle appeal, J.D. Power surveys tens of thousands of verified original owners of new vehicles after 90 days of ownership. The APEAL Study collects owner feedback across 10 major categories, including:

The 2022 APEAL Study gathered responses from 84,165 owners of 2022 model-year vehicles after 90 days of ownership. J.D. Power fielded the study from February 2022 through May 2022, based on vehicles registered from November 2021 through February 2022. Based on this Voice of the Customer data, the company calculated the makes and models that are most and least appealing to their owners....

Mercedes has now announced that the MB.EA platform will consist of the electric C-Class and the electric GLC. The MB.EA platform is produced in the Bremen and Kecskemét plants, Hungary.

So the eATS 2.0 powertrain will not only come into the MMA platform, but also into the MB.EA platform. This also includes the 800 volt technology. There will also be significant advances in energy density for the battery at MB.EA. But first the battery with the high energy density comes into the EQG.
It is also interesting that the EVA2 platform for the facelift (Mopf) will also receive some efficiency-enhancing technologies (probably also the eATS 2.0 drive train).
While the first MMA derivative is scheduled to launch in late 2024. The MB.EA platform will start in 2025. The AMG.EA platform will not start until the end of 2025.
Mercedes is currently very satisfied with the incoming EQ orders:
In the first half of 2022, Mercedes received 33,000 orders from the EQS and 28,000 from the Mercedes EQE (the correct order release was only in July 2022).
Buy more instead of leasing
It is also interesting that the leasing rates for new car sales are currently falling. People want to protect themselves against the inflation rate and buy the vehicles instead of leasing them. The depreciation is probably lower in the next few years as new car prices could continue to rise.
While the return for Mercedes from the EQS is still slightly below the S-Class, the margins from the EQE are slightly above the current E-Class. This is mainly due to the fact that the EQE is priced in more at the CLS level.
Based on the MB.EA-L, the electric S-Class will start in 2027
Deliveries of the electric S-Class EQS started in August 2021. The "real" S-Class of the 223 series has been rolling off the assembly line in Sindelfingen in Factory 56 since autumn 2020.
But in 2027, the EQS series and the S-Class will be reunited and will have a common successor.
This successor will be based on the MB.EA-L platform.
The MRA2 platform is the basis of the current C-Class and S-Class. At the beginning of 2023, the new E-Class (W214) will also start on this basis.
The MB.EA platform will start in 2025 with the all-electric C-Class and the all-electric GLC. They are built in the plants in Bremen and Kecskemét, Hungary.
The Mercedes plant in Sindelfingen would like to apply internally for the construction of the MB.EA-L derivatives and sees itself in a good position to be awarded the contract. In this case, MB.EA-L stands for Large. So these are the big vehicles on this platform.
The MB.EA platform differs in medium size vehicles (such as C-Class and GLC) and large seats (MB.EA-L e.g. the S-Class)
The current series (W/S/Z223) will probably have a slightly longer lifecycle beyond 2028 and will enable customers/markets without an electrical infrastructure to continue driving a Mercedes S-Class.
EQA Spied for the First Time, All New MMA Platform, MB.OS Software

Few will remember, but the original EQA was a conceptual electric hatchback revealed in September 2017. Mercedes had a change of heart and decided to repurpose the moniker for a crossover introduced in January 2021. It's December 2022 and the three-pointed star appears to be planning another body style change. Our spies have caught a heavily camouflaged prototype of an electric sedan being driven around the company’s R&D center in Stuttgart.
It's worth noting Mercedes may have already provided an early preview of this car. Back in May, the "The Economics of Desire" strategy update included a shadowy teaser image depicting the side profile of a new entry-level model. The silhouette presented by chief designer Gorden Wagener does seem to match this early prototype, albeit the thick disguise and provisional lights leave a lot to the imagination.
Slotting below the already confirmed electric C-Class Sedan, the new EQA will be an entirely different car than the crossover available today. We're not just talking about the body style change, but also the platform since it will use a dedicated EV architecture rather than an adaptation of underpinnings originally intended for ICE cars. Dubbed Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture (MMA), the platform is set to premiere in 2024.
Lessons learned while developing the Vision EQXX concept will be put to good use, so expect a lot of aero trickery to boost efficiency. The MMA architecture was originally announced in 2020 and will underpin compact and midsize cars. Per an announcement made earlier this year, the Rastatt (Germany) and Kecskemét (Hungary) factories have been tasked to produce this new wave of models from 2024. Mercedes will cut down on the number of compact cars from seven to four, with the surviving ones getting a technological boost.
Christoph Starzynski, Mercedes-Benz vice president of development for electric drive, told us earlier this year MMA won't be electric-only, but rather electric-first. He went on to say the platform is being developed to also accommodate combustion engines, "and the compromise will rest on the ICE side, not the EV side." As we've seen on the Vision EQXX, next-gen EVs could get active aero and its air-cooled battery's unique anode chemistry for higher density.
The MMA-based cars will utilize a new infotainment system developed in-house to cut down costs. It's called MB.OS and we'll see it first in the EVs before arriving in combustion-engined models around the middle of the decade. It looks as though the new hardware and software Mercedes is working on will premiere with this car, a compact sedan that appears to be lacking an ICE.
Between now and 2024, expect a lot more spy shots.
