I don't disagree but they could have been bolder on the design. If they would have only taken over the lower design of the doors and side skirts it would have given the car a lighter and more agile look. Even Lucid copied that.
This video demonstrates that nicely. Sorry, in German...

You're right, just did a double take and the noses are similar in length, I still I think the EQE looks better though, just less blob like and more sleek unlike the EQS which while not awful does look bloated, at least as of now, who knows as more camo comes off.

The sedan profile is likely a little more sleek. It is like comparing the Panamera (larger EQS-like hatch) and Taycan (smaller EQE-like sedan).

Not feeling this design, looks like a miniaturized older GLE coupe without the long nose, and the hood shut line is awful. EQE and EQS SUV hopefully will look much better.

From a design perspective there are several questionable choices: Side mirror design/location (the car was originally spec'd with cameras in the triangle) Now the triangle is still there. Window designs. Each door has two windows? The whole side looks chopped up. Window design in rear hatch; downright awkward. Same as the mentioned front fenders; not sure what the driver side cutout is for as the charging port appears to be in the passenger rear.

Again, this will likely be a fabulous EV and don't want to nitpick. But the EQS Vision had me at hello

Same here, many questionable choices, which is a shame because the interior teasers look amazing. I'm more into the Lucid Air at the moment, I'm hoping they will do well. I still have a bit more hope for the EQS SUV, as well as the EQE which will hopefully look a bit more sleek and just less... bleh, like this does.

In my opinion this EQS does not symbolize an electric S-Class that well, at least in the looks department. The S-Class just has a much stronger and elegant presence to it and doesn't look this bloated. The EQS has too many FWD Cab-Forward econobox design cues to it, and looks more taxi cab than flagship to me. But that's just my opinion.

If charging is passenger rear what is the other thing on the front driver side panel?

2022 Mercedes EQS 580
Found this online recently

Mercedes-Benz has disclosed the numbers behind the four main configurations of its impending electric flagship, the EQS. As it turns out, all four have AWD.

Before we begin, let’s just mention that the car, which bears the model designation W297, is 5.1 meters (16.73 feet) long and is only 70 mm (2.7 inches) shorter than the new W223 S-Class. It is also 8 mm (0.3”) taller than the S-Class.

The entry-spec EQS 450 offers 348 PS (343 hp / 256 kW) and 440 kilometers (273 miles) of range until charging becomes necessary. Prices in the United States are expected to start barely over $80,000. The EQS 450+ will get you farther with its 550 km (342 miles) of range, but it will come at nearly one hundred grand.

The EQS 580 brings 516 PS (509 hp / 379 kW) to the table along with 500 km (310 miles) of range. Finally, the range-topping AMG version will pack 630 PS (621 hp / 463 kW); range numbers are pending.

Options will include power-assisted doors (all four; not even the S-Class has a feature like that), as well as a spacious cabin and a display spanning the entire front fascia width.

The MEA-based liftback will be fully revealed in the first half of the current year and go into production at the same Factory 56 in Sindelfingen, Germany where the latest S-Class is being assembled.

The 450 would be a good deal if it actually comes in at $80K

Depends on the weight. 343hp sounds very low. The base $80k Tesla Model S has 670hp. The base $70k Lucid Air has 480hp. The base Audi e-tron has 355hp and that car is not that fun to drive. The Jaguar i-Pace has 394hp and that one also feels like it runs out of steam when you get to highway speeds although it is fine around town.

I have a hard time believing the HP numbers above to be honest. If they are true, then the price-value position is a bit weak. Might be better to buy something else. I would expect the S580 to deliver a 0-60 of 3.5s-3.7s if they want to be competitive. The AMG should be closer to 3s flat.

Not that focused on HP. I really like the Audi e-tron but it's I think that it's range is pretty bad. For sure the $80K Tesla S is a better deal. I am assuming that the Mercedes is going to be a nicer car. My reference system is the Taycan / Etron GT which are $100k AWD cars. The base $77.4k Lucid is a single motor. One thing I would prefer about the Lucid is that it is shorter. Having said that maybe an EQE will be a better fit for me.

I'm assuming the ranges above are WLTP, they seem a bit low, especially once they are converted to EPA standards.

Yes I have read the same thing. If it is the lower number, they will have a harder time converting ICE buyers,

It kind of looks like a buick badged chevy impala. At least from these photos. I wanna like it, I really do but these pictures aren't very flattering.

Late to the party, jumping in and out of this thread. Is this the S class EV(EQS)? If so, yikes! Looks like an EV VW would produce, and I like VW's but not for this level or price. The early renderings, and reports showed a different and much better looking vehicle. What happened?

Does look a little VW like. However the picture is a pretty cheap trim level.

When the first pictures of the new W223 S-Class were first shown people on here were saying it looked like a Hyundai with a Tesla interior. Of course once we saw the real thing, most people liked it and lots of orders were placed.

I'm still holding a bit of hope, although the EQE is likely more my thing since I prefer smaller and sportier, but production photos always do look better than s**t spy pics, well... maybe not for some cars (G80 M3 and Vantage come to mind).

The EQS seems confirmed for 700km distance. In Europe the larger 107kwh battery will be optional.
Same 10 degree rear wheel steering option (same as S-Class)
Level 3 autonomy (same timing as S-Class)
In Europe, cars with MBUX can charge their fuel (electricity or gas/diesel) directly from the car. Cool feature IMO (via the Mercedes me Charge app).
No frunk btw.

I wonder if the EQE will be more interesting as it is a sedan design vs hatchback. Intro will be in September while the EQS into is on April 15...

2014 AUDI A8/2014 AUDI R8
Im not a MB owner but Im a passionate car guy that appreciates german engineering so and I figured I would chime in on the EQS and especially since I plan on going to an an EV in the next 2- years.

As a long time owner of AUDI, I thought for sure AUDI electron would lead the pack in EV sedans. But an April 2020 C&D Article says AUDI NEXT A8 will not be all electric. They are stuck with the VW platform and I think their poor vision will cost them.

I agree with many sentiments here; Why cant anyone in the industry they just build a nice looking EV Lux sedan? The only decent looking EV I have seen was the Tesla S Model but that still technically is not what i consider a true Lux sedan. plus, the latest S Model body changes has evolved it into a hideous abomination.

Having said that, I like the EQS Look, atleast what i see in the renditions. Its not bad when you consider the other ugly looking EV's. Perhaps I may think differently when I see it. But I think we are venturing into exciting times with EV and im glad the U.S. is commiting, as long as there are adequate charging stations and not the ones that will be gouging fees for charging

My prediction is that Tesla will have to make their stations available to all brands over time to keep the preferred pricing for electricity from municipalities & power companies. This has already come up in some locations...
