Especially when the Model Y is the worst car I’ve ever driven in my 56 years. Horrible suspension and tinny radio among many other gripes.

I was only asking why, I'm not against either EV. Live and let live.

For the occasions when showing up in a >$100k car will be counterproductive. And as a spare car that the nanny can use when taking the kids to the museum.

yes there are other options in that space, but the Tesla is the best EV at this price point.

I'm not familiar with the MB ordering process but are they saying below (from the 5/26/21 ordering guide) that all 580's have to have the AMG line exterior package ect, ect? So even though practically their entire marketing campaign has been advertising the 580 whether its the 1st edition or the other 580 with the Chrome lined gills bumpers and now they are saying no just the AMG bumpers can be ordered? that seems like a pretty dramatic of an ordering change. Do you think this is a production glitch and it will change later? I don't know whether to place my order now or just wait.
thanks,
  • Important! The following equipment is currently required on all EQS orders
    • EQS 450+: Ventilated Seats (401), 10-Degree Rear Axle Steering (216)
    • EQS 580 4M: AMG Line Exterior Package (DG1), AMG Line Wheel (Choice of RWX or RWY), Ventilated Seats (401), 10-Degree Rear Axle Steering (216)
    • Note: Ventilated Seats are already included in Exclusive and Pinnacle Trims

I suspect slimming down number of variants to support, and oh yeah improving profit margin.

I just hope they don't get to greedy and price the 580 out of the market.
Figure DG1 is at least 5k along with 10 degree steering another 5k with a grand for the larger wheels.
Gut hunch says nibbling towards 150-160k range but I hope not.
I'm still disappointed that they killed off emerald green and saddle leather.

If it is $150-160k I will cancel my order. I think at that price it has to have better performance than what they have. I'm expecting it to be same price as an S580 - $116 base, $135 well equipped.

Totally disagree with you. I think it is a great car. The suspension is on par with cars like the Audi Q5 which is the tier of vehicles it competes with. The sound system is great and sounds on par and maybe better than the burmester in the GLC300 (which it also competes with).

Yes it is not competitive with a GLE with Airmatic and a Burmester High End 3D audio system but then again it is also $35k less expensive.

And ditto for me. If the car comes in at $150k, my order will be cancelled as well. I asked the general manager his thoughts on price, and for what it's worth he thought it would be priced similar to the new S class. I was never an AMG person, but currently I couldn't pre-order the car without it and the 10 degree steering. I'm excited about the car, but have learned over the years to be patient and not overpay for something new. I can always cancel and re-order it when those "options" are not mandatory. And yes, the last listed accessory on my pre-order print out was D50 Touchscreen Cleaning Cloth. Whoopie!

My Feeling exactly Radman, I don't like the fact that the car may not have the open-door option and forced to choose the AMG exterior package as well!

Unless you are independently wealthy, everyone should take a more cautious wait-and-see approach to the EQS. I have a lot of questions and concerns about moving to an EV at this time. We do some traveling and the infrastructure for EV charging is in its infancy, at least for non-Tesla owners. Also, I want to watch YouTube reviews from actual EQS owners after 6 to 12 months of ownership in case there are issues that need to be resolved by MB or the charging networks in the US. I watched several videos of the new Ford Mustang EV on a long trip and the number and frequency of charging issues were just ridiculous. Ford's Nav system that routes the car to the next available charging station is very poorly executed (compared to a multitude of Tesla videos available) so I would first want to watch videos of real-world EQS owners and their experience taking it on a long trip. EV's are coming, no doubt about it, but I won't jump in until I'm sure the kinks are worked out. On the other hand, if you're the daring type and have the money, jump on in and post your experiences via YouTube for the rest of us.

JoeMa:

I agree that charging stations are going to be an issue for a while until electric cars go mainstream. Most car companies are heading towards all electric vehicles, but we aren’t anywhere near that now. My nephew who owns a Tesla model Y keeps asking me what are Mercedes plans with chargers. That’s a big deal for long trips, but with the range of the EQS it’s less of an issue for everyday driving. My plans now if I decide to go ahead with the purchase is to make one long distance drive along the 95 corridor along the east coast and then keep the car garaged in Florida for the rest of the time. I figure I may do a few 2-3 hour drives once in a while but otherwise basically drive it around town. That’s what I currently do with my S class. Gone are the days I drive the car back and forth from Florida to RI. So I will look at the cost of the car when the prices finally come out and then decide whether or not to pull the trigger. I can always pull out of the purchase and get my $1000 deposit back. And the stock market has been very good to me, so even though it’s a big chunk of change, I can afford to do it. Buying Amazon at $22 a share certainly helps.

@Radman991 , thanks for your thoughts. That actually sounds like a good plan based on the usage of the EQS once you get it to Florida. I hope you capture your trip from RI to FL on your phone and post it to YouTube to help those like me who want to move to an EV but are hesitant about using it for long trips. I'd be most interested in the recharging stops and how well the Nav system helped you along the way to locate the best charging stations. Tesla's software is very refined at doing this for their owners. Your experiences could really be helpful.

Honestly I think the charging network is a non issue for most buyers. Per Mercedes:
The average S-class customer in the States is wealthy—$375,000-a-year wealthy—and has several vehicles. In many cases, more than one of those vehicles is a Mercedes. So while the brand’s more bourgeois clientele may be forced to choose between a C-class and a GLC, many S-class customers need make no such decision between the flagship sedan and a GLS. They can have both.
There will always be a car in the garage which can easily be refueled on long trips. And also the economics of renting a car are pretty good too when you factor depreciation.

That said "the daring types" are often the ones with "the money". No risk no reward.

I was told by my Salesperson that this was the image associated with the option D10 Rear Lip Spoiler with this description "EQS is already equipped with a rear lip spoiler as standard equipment, D10 spoiler sits on top of factory spoiler and is larger/more pronounced."
This sure looks like the standard Spoiler, anyone seen the larger upgraded Spoiler?

I'm guessing the 580 Loaded, 135,000 to $150,000. A fully loaded S sedan is around $145,000. The Plaid Tesla 135000 without the auto drive option. Gunna be interesting!

With all the new “standard” items on the car, I don’t think you can get a “basic” EQS. Every 580 will be “loaded”. Lol.

I have an appreciation for trying to bring out a new model and trying to limit the permutations until you get the process under control.
Looking at the seats gives me pause. A sport seat is a good thing but so is nappa leather. I luuuuv the quilted leather nappa seats in my S63.
The comfort nappa seats looks close but...are the 399 multicontour a dynamic multicontour?
as in side bolster inflation on corners. I'll admit I have gotten rather spoiled.
all of the early vehicle videos have those neat little comfort pillows on the front seat out of alcantara. looking at the pictures i can't tell anymore.
and the description conveniently describes rear pillows and comfort front headrests. boo i hope I won't be disappointed.
I've been told to expect the EQS580V to be inline with the S580 4matic as far as pricing is concerned. so here's hoping.

I had the conversation with a local dealer about the EQS price and I was told, like everyone else, that it would be around the price of the S class. My question back to him was which S class? The base MSRP of a 2021 S63 AMG coupe is about 173K. So will the EQS be closer to a base S class at 110K, or closer to a fully loaded AMG S 63 coupe, north of 180K ?

I was lead to believe pricing would be similar to a similar equipped S class. IE a similarly equipped S580 to a EQS580 with similar options. So I’m hoping my EQS won’t go over the $130 mark.

Based on the source of this, I feel fairly confidant in it.
The only problem being the 2022 S580 4-matic pricing isn't announced either.
