MBUX streaming services

Does anyone know if the EQS will support streaming services? It would be great to be able to watch a YouTube or Netflix video while charging. I would also like to have access to music streaming services like Spotify.

Well no one else has replied to your request so here's my take as one who does not buy into all the hype over EVs.

Autoweek's review of the EQS says:

"The most novel portion is the far-right third screen, which only appears when a passenger is present, but offers that passenger a suite of entertainment and information options—though not including Netflix videos (yet)."

Of course, you could always just go for a mild hybrid like the "53" or "450" series vehicles. You can still feel good about driving a hybrid and you can be in and out of the gas station in 5 minutes which alleviates the need for streaming while waiting a half hour for a charge.

I dont know about YouTube and Netflix but Spotify will be available via Apple Carplay or Android Auto just like any other car.

I'm not trying to save the environment by purchasing an EQS. I owned a S63 AMG coupe (recently sold it) in addition to my Tesla P100D. I'm interested in the EQS because I love the quiet, smooth, and immediate acceleration of my Tesla and the comfort and luxury of my S63. The EQS could potentially provide all the things I love in one car. A hybrid would just not be as quiet and smooth. I charge mostly at home, so periodically going to a public charger and waiting is not a big deal for me. I also enjoy watching YouTube videos when I'm playing chauffeur for my wife. I sometimes would drive my Tesla instead of the S63 just so I could watch an EQS YouTube review video while she runs into CVS.
Also don't knock a luxury EV until you try it. Think about all the effort Mercedes has put into trying to minimize the engine noise and vibration in the ICE S class, you get that automatically in an EV. So instead of trying to hide the engine noise, why not just remove the engine. Smile

Although it is seldom used by me, this is a feature that I will miss in my Tesla. It's trivial, but comes in handy on occasions. It appears you can rig it up in a Mercedes, but you shouldn't have to.

There are three things that keep me on the fence about whether I will make the final leap to the EQS: loss of infotainment (Netflix, Hulu, Disney), FSD vaporware seems to be materializing finally, and, mobile service rather than going to a brick and mortar dealership. Until you experience at home car repair, you don't realize how big a convenience this is.

I'm sure it is very enjoyable, if that is what you will appreciate and prioritize. I just have to chuckle when I drive to a local Starbucks here in Colorado ski country and see 6-8 cars sitting at the charging stations -- or worse sitting in the Walmart parking lot. That is my frame of reference at this point. Things possibly will change in the future, but for now, for me, EVs are over hyped and not near the top of my shopping list. Someday possibly for in-town errands but not for longer distance travels. As I have posted perhaps on this forum, here in the western USA, the infrastructure is not here yet. Even on Interstate 70 in Utah there are signs stating "No Services Next 113 miles" -- and that is for ICE vehicles. If an EQS is right for you in your situation, go get one.

It's really not as bad as you think. There are great route planners out there that show how you hop, skip and jump across the country in 2.5 to 3 hour increments between charges. Moving across Utah is not a challenge. Traveling from Denver to Las Vegas requires 1 hour 8 minutes of charging over a distance of 751 miles with no stop being over 28 minutes. There is a challenge, though, in the upper Midwest where charging stations are few and far between. There are also challenges in truly remote areas such as moving off the highway route to a destination such as a park or small town. This is where true planning is required. But, the destination charge % feature that the EQS has will help this a great deal.

I gave up long trips in my car several years ago. My stops now would be dictated more by the size of my bladder than my battery size. I'm stopping every hour anyway.

I have a Model S Long Range on order that will cost $89,000 before taxes. The EQS 450 available to me will be at least $25,000 more expensive. The dealer also currently charges $15,000 over sticker. I’d prefer the EQS 580, but I haven’t found an incoming one that is available. I always found the Tesla app very useful, but have no idea if Mercedes offers a similar app. I wouldn’t watch videos in the car often, but imagine that it could be nice escaping to the garage to watch a video at times.

1) There will be a streaming solution. I rarely use it in my Tesla.
2) FSD - don't see a material gap vs Tesla on this. In the near term the Mercedes system has more benefits because it is not speed limited and doesnt cost extra.
3) Mobile service - My dealer offers pickup and delivery for service. They come to your house, drop off a loaner and then bring your car back and collect the loaner. I find it is an adequate solution for a once a year service. Most dealers in Atlanta offer this these days.

I have a chuckle when drive past local gas stations where people have to get gas on a regular basis.
Often times I feel sorry for them when a car beside me has to make a turn into a gas station when we are both going in the same direction towards work or leaving work on the way home.
I say to myself “awwwww, your car doesn’t fill up while you eat dinner every day? Awwww, well don’t let any of that stinky toxic stuff splash on your clothes… byeeee!”
lol, I am an EV elitist after owning an EV for only 3 months.

Yes, I hear you and appreciate your perspective and experience. BTW -- the Denver to Las Vegas trip that requires 3 stops for an hour and a half with an EV, requires only one 10 minute stop with my CLS53 while I add that stinky gas and my wife gets an Arby's next door. I try to peel out and lay a patch to smell the burning rubber but it is hard with the 4Matic.

I was at the dealer this morning because my son wanted to look at a Black Series.

While we were there I tried streaming video in an EQS. It’s all via browser. You can almost make it full screen but you can’t get rid of the search bar at the top. I don’t know if you can save passwords. I didn’t use my personal log in.

Will look into password management when my own car arrives Thursday.

My guess is they will launch native apps for Netflix, etc him the coming months.

I was able to successfully stream YouTube through the browser as well, but haven’t tried other services or password management. I will later today.

Netflix and HBOMax don’t work. I hope MB releases dedicated apps for the car.

I see that you tried this, but really? Can't you open a browser and go to NETFLIX.COM, sign in, and open your account and see your watch list?

Really. Netflix returns an error code that the browser isn't supported either in Desktop or mobile emulation. HBOMax refuses to come up as well. I'm not going to bother trying Hulu or other services.

Did some more testing today. Disney Plus works great as does Plex and Emby if you’re into self hosting content.

With both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, why would you need to do that? Why not just run them off your phone?

It's the Macchiato Beige / Space Grey Nappa Leather interior. Don't have any more pics but will take some once I get the car back from tint/chrome delete.

The interior looks great. I want to do the chrome delete, but my wife is now trying to talk me out of it.

Good find on Disney. I tried it and it works great.

On YouTube I noticed Google doesn’t like the browser so you can’t log into your YouTube account.
