Build Date
The dealership said that my 580 is scheduled for build on October 16. I'm assuming that's the week of October 16. Correct? She said that based on that build date to anticipate delivery in January. Again, this is my first MB, sound correct?

2022 Mercedes EQS 580
That would be right if it was an ICE vehicle. ICE vehicles typically stock pile at the port awaiting EPA release. However the EQS is already EPA rated, and since it is an EV I don't think it needs additional testing. Which means you could get in December.

are you sure it’s a 580 building in October? I’m in ca and none of the dealers are getting 580 in 2021. It’s all 450s this year.

The way things have been going it could well mean October 2116!

I have an order for a 580 placed in April that is scheduled to be built next week. I check the status every week with my dealer. It currently shows 3days to production. I lost the comfort doors on 9/28 due to supply chain issues.

2022 EQS 450
I ordered my EQS on 16 January 2021. The dealer was surprised to get an order that early and was a little hesitant but I have a relationship with them that spans decades. They convinced me I would get a 450 before a 580 and all the constraints have continued to be active. I really wanted the door option. Mercedes has disappointed us by showcasing us their picasso of EV's and then like showing a child a shiny new toy and saying HA HA, sorry, you can't have it.
My initial build date for a 450 was 11/1/2021 which has since slipped to 12/1/2021. Maybe I get it in January depending on holiday delay and other issues.
In another thread, somebody remarked that there would be a special lease on the 450 for 2 years. I normally pay cash for my cars but with a completely new model and new technology, I might do the lease to lessen exposure to unforeseen issues which might affect resale or trade in value.
Allocations to the dealers seem bizarre to me as does the test drive cities they have chosen. I would have thought Florida and Texas to be among the cities for test drives. I don't know where their volume is but I thought Texas and Florida would have been in the mix.

Just got back from a trip to my dealer. They have two 450's already built and on way to the dealership. Both are unsold. They have 2 580's on order with a build date of mid October and the second one November 10, and as one would imagine, both are sold. I preordered my 580 on June 1, I am currently 8th on their list of 580's. I originally thought I was 6th on their list. He showed me the constraint list of options and automatic doors are listed as constrained for the next 5 months. Salesman said they have seen no interest in the 450, everyone wants a 580.

Let's hope Mercedes doesn't notice this and raise the price on the 580... I think everyone wants the 580 because it doesn't cost that much more, has AWD, and has the hypersceen and other upgrades....

I hope both Mercedes and BMW (they only are offering their base i4 in RWD as well) take a hint and add AWD to their lower trimmed EV's. Even though most people could get away with RWD and snow tires, good luck convincing them. For most customers in the US, AWD is a necessity and they won't buy a car without it. I'm hoping the EQS 450 and EQE 350 will eventually receive 4Matic variants.

580 also comes with the AMG exterior package and 21" AMG wheels. If you spec'd all of that on a 450+, you'd have a price of $112,810 on a Premium Trim car. It's $119,110 for a 580+. So, 4Matic adds around $6K to the cost of the car.

Update on my build process. My 580 has started its build process yesterday (VIN Issued). Based on the VIN#, it appears that ~ 6500 EQS have been built to date! This is a very impressive start for MB! Can’t wait to get my EQS ! Will be attending the test drive event this weekend and will finally get to see it in the flesh!

The step up between models is fairly traditional for Mercedes
The E350 up to the E550 as an example.
The upper model got most of the nice stuff by default. Leather instead of MB-Tex and so forth.
When you optioned out the lower car you were very close to the price of the upper car with standard equipment.
The extra driveline components to make it AWD is basically the difference between the two.
Having RWD as an option does open the market to folks who can't quite get to the upper model.
It also allows dealers to discount the 450 a little to get people in the door and step them up to the 580.

2022 EQS 450
Stopped by the dealer today and was excited to know that my car was built yesterday with a VIN around 5500. It is awaiting shipment and hopefully can be delivered in November. I ordered a 450 because the dealer had no 580 allocations available. I will most likely do a lease if the terms are favorable since I am skeptical about the residual on the 450 vs 580. I was also told if you order a 580 today it will be 18 months before delivery due to chip issues.
