I wouldnt buy either! As we are well aware essentially all so called luxury cars lose more than 50% of their value in 5 years. If you add 50 thousand bucks to that depreciation you are basically into negative territory! In effect an electric car will be a ten year disposable item since that is the projected lifetime of the original battery pack! Either that or batteries will have to be replaceable at a reasonable price for example 10 to 20k. Mercedes' "plan" is to recycle the batteries. We will see....
while i agree the Lucid has a better looking exterior design, there are some significant drawbacks:
1) Dreamdrive (much of their driver's assistance software) is not currently available, which means no emergency braking, no adaptive cruise, etc. They say it will be out later this month, but as of today this is a big functionality gap.
2) No date set on when they will have adaptive cruise with steering assist (which Mercedes has been offering since 2015)
3) No Apple CarPlay or Android Auto - and no date on when this will be updated.
Apple Carplay and drivers assist are core functions at this price point.

Tested and validated takes years or decades, it takes experience. Again 170k is an idiotic amount for a mechanical device that is still little more than a beta. Even Tesla after a decade has horrible coachwork and embarrassing build quality and chronic reliability problems. Again a fools errand.
Mercedes and other German car manufacturers definitely know how to build cars but have been sleeping at the wheel when it comes to EV's. There are reasons why. Germans customers overall showed little to no interest in buying EV's and the Germany's car industry as one of the largest employers in the country knew that building EV's would require up to 70% less labor. 100% union labor, that is. This was going to be a slow and painful transition. Significant emissions penalties, city driving restrictions for older Diesel tech and COVID created incentives for change.
But German companies are not as experienced with EV tech as Tesla, Lucid or Rivian. Besides, German car manufacturers have always been lousy with software development. US tech companies have a head-up there. Kudos to MB to create MB.OS with its standalone leadership.
We'll see how this develops. I for one am a huge fan of Mercedes but with EV's they will have to earn their reputation just like any other car manufacturer.

Yet Lucid has sold all the $170k Dream editions they plan to make...
And great point Wolfman about the EV tech. The designers at Lucid come from Tesla and have way more experience with EVs than Mercedes

The desicion clearly shows how much those honors are worth. "Best Car of the Year" awarded to a car that is not available for sale and at the time didn't have a finalized interface software, utter bull****. Obviously awarded to the highest bidder.

Thats just ridiculous lol. All of the reviews of the car have praised it, and it is in fact available for sale. Deliveries are happening now.

At the time of the award the car was not for sale. Furtheremore the ones available still have a beta user interface just like the Plaids that have been sold that DONT get to 200mph. UTTER BS. If you wish to drink the koolaid thats your choice. No EQS is being sold with options or critical car systems TBD.

Not sure why this car makes you so angry lol. From all the reviews, its a great car and competition makes everyone better. Tesla's been selling $12,000 beta options for years, just part of being an early adopter...and what do I care if it doesnt get to 200MPH? The EQS is hideous IMO, no way I would ever buy one for that reason alone. I would take a Plaid or an Air. All the "heritage" in the world from MB won't make me buy a car I hate looking at.

If a dealer doesn't have a representative in my economic area, I won't buy from them. That eliminates Tesla and Lucid from my list of potential new car purchases.
There is a Tesla owner in my neighborhood who has had nothing but problems with her over $100k purchase.

Think about it: Fully electric cars don't have multi-speed transmissions, radiators, fuel injectors, gas tanks, valvetrains or exhaust systems, to name just a few differences. And yet they cost so much more......makes perfect sense too eh?

Batteries cost more than engines and transmissions. Batteries are very heavy so that suspensions must be stronger.
Fewer are being sold so that fixed costs are spread across fewer units.

Electronics will be better in the EQS (although I did play with the infotainment in the Lucid for 10-15 minutes and its actually quite elegant, simple and slick), but the styling is an absolute dealbreaker to me, so it negates any of the other benefits the car might have,

2022 Mercedes EQS 580
Midsized on the outside, not on the inside. Thats one of the great things about its design. definitely comparable to the EQS, in fact I think it feels more spacious:

Your chart is misleading. Seat height is important too. The Lucid roofline is very low. I bumped my head getting in the first time. The drivers seat is therefore positioned very close to the floor, which means your legs are stretched out more horizontally like in a Porsche 911 or Taycan. The implication of this is that you have the car seat much further back, you use up the extra front legroom, and you have a lot less rear legroom. The overall space in the back is more like an E Class than a S class.

You guys may want to consider creating a new thread to discuss interior space, headroom, etc.
