Hey,
I drove the black 580 in Tysons. I forgot to ask which black, do you know if the black 580 was Obsidian Black or Onyx Black? I took pictures but the day I went was so overcast I can't really tell the difference when I look back at the picture.

I bought my first Mercedes in the spring of 1971 - 50 years ago - at age of 39. Bought a two-tone 300SEL for pickup in Vienna. Black top, cream bottom. Drove it about 4.500 miles through Hungary, Bulgaria, and down to Athens, around Greece, up Mt Olympus, and up the Adriatic Coast to Split and Triest, then to Venice. From there to Stuttgart, from whence it was shipped to the US. I picked it up in Baltimore.
I paid >$10,000 for it; today at The Dollar Then And Now site, that converts to $66,925.
I drove it 105,000 miles, then traded it in on an Audi 5000.
I did later buy a ‘73 - don’t recall the model; a Porsche 944; several Bentleys. My next one was ‘12 S Class, then a lovely light blue MB convertible, then my current’18 S Class…now awaiting my EQS450+.
In between I had a Morgan +8, one of the last half-dozen gas-engined for a long time. In ‘08, I bought a used Bristol 603S2, had a very complete factory rebuild and repaint. It’s disappeared out in Portland, OR.
That ignores a Ford wagon, an Olds VistaCruiser, and a late ‘60s Olds Toronado. A lot of fun, a lot of $$.

Great review. Although I like my EQS... I will go back to W223 S580 for my next car. My lease is up in a year, I personally think the infrastructure isn't there. I do have a chargepoint 9.7kw charger at home but still the long trips etc... kind of a pain.
However, I was in middle school when W220 came out back in 2000.
My dad's doctor friend bought one of the first W220s when it first came out. It was a white S500 with most of the options.
I remember being in the car's back seat so comfortable and the ride was just something I never experienced at that point.
(My family wasn't wealthy enough to own a nice car... when I was a child:C)
The first command system with navigation was really interesting. I believe no one had navigation back then. The massage seats vented seats first radar-guided cruise control (Distronic)
The Parktronic sensor beeping for you, rain-sensing wipers, etc. That experience made me get an MB when I made enough money to comfortably afford one since then I owned C, ML, E, S, EQS,
So yes the W220 is and was a great car in my opinion.
