Finally Picked up my EQS 580

I felt very lucky. My dealer had an 11 person wait list for the 580, but said there was no wait list for the 450+. I played golf with one of the salesmen, and asked him to call me if they got a 450+ in that I could drive. He called, I drove, and I purchased on the spot. It happened to be exactly what I was looking for. The only thing I thought might be important that it didn't have was HUD, but the way the driver screen is positioned makes that mute....I haven't missed my HUD at all. Hope you all can find the one for you. It is a fabulous car.

I really don't understand why someone in my neck of the woods would order a 450 anyway given that we have at least 4 mths of snow ... In Canada the 450 is not available at all!

The 450 I test drove was someone who ordered the vehicle and didn't go through with the purchase.

I got some good news today. My EQS580 (pinnacle trim)with lots of options) is actually built. It now shows the VIN. Next step is to wait in line for a vessel to ship it to Baltimore. Hopefully, I'll have it by mid March but I won't hold my breath. The most significant options which will not be available is the auto soft closing doors and the active ambient lighting. But I have to learn how to live without those. Of course it has the ambient lighting but not the active one. Not a biggy. I know I'll miss the soft closing doors since my current 2019 S450 has that.

I don’t know how good of a ride it will be since I don’t have it yet. I’m pretty sure I’ll love it though. I’ll make sure the dealer fixes any bugs that can be fixed. Also, I’ll make sure that the dealer connects everything with the Mercedes me Connect and Charge Point. They have installed several Charge Point chargers at the dealer.

2022 Mercedes EQS 580
Mercedes should really make this first come first serve, rather than dishing out allocations randomly to dealers who may or may not have orders.

Makes no sense. I got an allocation basicly the day I ordered. I know that dealers get different allocations, but it seems random. I guess living in the land of cows where the market is EV ignorant has its advantages.😁

I ordered my EQS580 November 22, 2021, three months now they still don't have an allocation? Looking online at various dealers across the U.S.A. it appears for every 5 to 10 EQS450+ cars there is a EQS580? I can't believe people want the EQS450+ that much more. You buy a Mercedes North of $100,000, fifteen or twenty K more can't be that much of a big deal, OR IS THE HYPERSCREEN THE CAUSE NEEDING MUCH MORE CHIPS TO PRODUCE?

This is actually the opposite, people don't want the EQS450+ mainly because it is RWD, hence why they are sitting on dealer lots, especially in areas with colder climates. Mercedes has actually cancelled the RWD variant in the US and all future 450+'s will be AWD for the US market. The Hyperscreen simply requires so many chips and is harder to produce. Last year MB told dealers that approximately 20% of all EQS production would be 580 models.

Mercedes miscalculated I think. If the 450 was AWD it might make sense. As JS_CLS is saying below. I also think they miscalculated because this is the flagship model, and people often want more power at that level. If you look at models like the GLE you will also see the 350 model is 90% of production with a tiny number of 450 and 580 models. With the S-Class the ratio of 580 to 500 models is probably more like 20:80, vs 10:90. So no matter how you look at it, Mercedes got this wrong.

Just a word.....not everyone is enthralled by AWD. Have only had one sedan which was AWD. RWD is fine by many folks, myself included. Clearly, most of you on this forum in the US prefer AWD, but MB may not have gotten this wrong. I would like to have a hyperscreen, aesthetically, but functionally the 580 gives me AWD (which I don't require), hyperscreen (which I don't need, since I rarely have a passenger), and rear seat enhancements (which I clearly don't need as I almost never have a rear seat passenger), for $25K more. The 450 is perfect for my needs. MB got my needs right, and I suspect I am not alone. Just sayin'....YMMV.
