Missing Functionality, Change in options
I ordered my EQS 450 at the end of November. I ordered the premium trim, and added energy blue wheels, all seasons, dashcam, winter, and head up options. Took delivery on Feb 10.
After about 3 weeks of driving, I noticed some things were not how I ordered them, and that multiple functions that were supposed to be on the car didn’t seem to work or were missing. Any thoughts or advice on the items below?
- Heads-up. Dealer told me that it wasn’t gonna be on any 450 due to microchips. After looking back over the site, they fully scrapped the head up as an option in the premium trim, but still listed on the other 2. And verified that a dealership in town did get a 450 with head up. This happen to anyone else?
- Convenience (Automatic) Doors. Fully missing. Dealership has no idea how or why. Don’t even soft close. I quadruple checked that it wasn’t that I FORGOT to add the option. Just nowhere to be seen. But all the MBUSA press releases said they would be standard. Did anyone get theirs with the auto doors?
- Driving Assist/LKA/Route based speed etc... Basically everything that falls under layman’s “self driving” are seemingly unreliable. The systems will randomly turn off or not work without notification. i.e. I’ll be going around a slight curve on the highway, with everything lit green. Car starts to drift toward white line, and suddenly everything greys out, no beep or flash to regain control, and doesn’t push me back in like it normally does even without cruise on. Route based has tried to hurtle me through multiple different exit ramps and roundabouts at well over 45mph. Despite knowing and showing they were coming up.
- No Memory Parking Assist or remote parking function. It’s on press release without stipulation. Then found it listed in the manual, but manual now says country dependent. Doesn’t say which ones though.
Anyone else finding this? I still really like the car overall, and it’s super nice obviously, but kinda hard feeling like the price was justified now that the things that seemed to set it apart didn’t happen. Just feel a bit led on.
1. Yes there is a chip shortage and only a few of the very first EQS builds has comfort or soft closing doors. They are currently delayed until 2023.
2. The AR HUD is constrained on the EQS450. The one your dealer received is either a vehicle built before the constraint or it just the regular HUD not the AR HUD.
Common sense would say that if you ordered the AR HUD and its constrained then they should just give you the normal HUD... Noooo... MB just deletes the AR HUD and you get no HUD at all.
3, Yes it sucks but you said "no beep or flash to regain control" the way MB designed this system is that you must always be in control... its an "assistant" not a self driving system...
4. MB doesnt have Memory Park AFAIK you are thinking about BMW, MB did have remote park though... and now that you mention it... I don't think that remote park was ever advertised for the EQS... that's weird

The foibles of the self driving system are the reason its not considered an autonomous system. The sytem can be blinded by direct sunlight, bad lane lines, rain, etc. Exits that don't have "chop lines" can cause it to veer into the exit too. Its an assistance system. Believe or not, its as good if not better than Teslas "autopilot" and the reason Tesla idiots frequently keep rear ending all sorts of things.
Memory parking is probably not available in the US just like the fully automatic head lights.

.2. I ordered regular hud. Was an optional add on at order. Told no 450 was getting any HUD, then saw they had just quietly taken it off as optional and moved it to standard on the other 2 trims
3. Right. Every manufacturer states you have to be ready to take control at any moment. But the manual states, very explicitly, that it will flash when transitioning from active to passive.
Steering Assist
4. this was stated on the generic MB media site, not specific to MBUSA, but someone has since said it’s because it’s not legal in the states, but obviously BMW and MB had it, Tesla, I think some Hyundais do it??
Since you didn't pay for automatic comfort doors, there would be no credit for it. They never priced the option nor allowed anyone to order that option, so there is no way anyone could have got a credit for it being missing.
I have ordered a build-to-order EQS580 Exclusive to replace my off the lot one. The new car has an AR HUD in the specs. If the AR HUD is missing or substituted for regular HUD on arrival I will for sure refuse delivery. That said my dealer told me it should have it since there are no deletions on my order and the build is locked for production.
BTW I think you have a valid issue if the car did not beep to warn you. You can raise that issue with the dealer, and pursue a lemon law buyback claim if the advertised function does not work as described.
My overall experience with DrivePilot is that it is better than the base "Autopilot" on the Tesla. The big issues I had on the Tesla were (1) The autopilot won't change lane itself if you apply the turn signal, and it stopped autopilot if you change lane forcing you to reapply the autopilot. The Mercedes does not have this issue. (2) On the Tesla if it deems you are driving badly (e.g. by executing a few lane changes when autopilot is engaged) it will terminate all autopilot function for the remainder of the drive - which is a pain on a long drive. Then you have to get off at an exit, stop the car, get out, and lock it to turn it off. Then get back in, and only then will it allow you to use the Autopilot again. This was absolutely ridiculous design!

So once again surprsing you didn't notice in your first 3 weeks, but the answer is no "Premium" EQSs in the US will have HUD. It mandates getting Exclusive or higher.

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
After some Googling, I found the answer:
https://www.automotiveworld.com/news...he-eqe-saloon/
"The Memory Parking Assist as part of the Remote Parking Package is available for the current S‑Class, EQE, EQE SUV, EQS and EQS SUV models. The Parking Package with Memory Parking Assist is available for the current models of C‑Class and GLC."
So for me, the answer probably is the fact that I did NOT order the Remote Parking Package. It's a shame, as had I known Memory Parking Assist was buried within it, I would have ordered the Remote Parking Package for this feature alone. I have no need or desire to park my car with a smartphone -- not sure I would ever trust that setup.
