BMW i7 vs Mercedes EQS
#26
Not sure why you feel the need to keep stating your disdain for the EQS, or why you continue to frequent the EQS (which you hate) forum. But I can assure you, we get it. Surely you realize that to those of us who love the EQS (i.e. most who frequent this forum) your opinions are tainted. But you certainly have the right to them, and I accept that, and generally wish you well. Thanks for your contribution.

The S Class has always been a step ahead of the 7 series in my opinion. But the fact still remains that the EQS is NOT an S class EV.
I was fully aware of the downgrade when I traded my S550 for an EQS.

Disagree all you want but the EQS is not on the same level as an S Class... The i7 is on the same level as the 7 series.

It looking like its from the 1980s is likely by design. Its a true 3 box sedan which we haven't seen in a long time, and if you haven't noticed, the 80s are everywhere in modern aesthetic.

It looks nothing like a BMW from the 1980s. This is just horrendous.

With the large screen in the back the I7 must be using an electronic center rear view mirror.
These are showing up in some cars (C8 Corvette). They get mixed reviews. Some whose eyes are getting "older" claim the focus is hit or miss.

I have this feature in my GMC Acadia Denali. You can toggle it off and on. And yes going from regular mirror to electronic takes a bit getting used to[focus point is different]. At first I thought this was just a gimmick and I would never use it but when I had bags of yard waste completely blocking my view and realized with one toggle I could see behind me again I found it indispensable.

The Hofmeister Kink is sadly the only BMW-like aspect of the new 7er, and thankfully they didn't ruin that like they have on the new 4-Series.

Sorry, but the first through fourth I7 pic that I see in post one is not a 3 box layout. The sweeping roofline extends past the back of the rear wheels. The third "box" is not really there in any proportion nor does the rear quarter panel have any corresponding proportion. I'd have to really squint my eyes and use my imagination to make a third box appear in any of those pics.

Close but no cigar for me.
Trying for a two box design with a 4 door is hard and makes for an uncomfortable back seat, just ask owners of the Jaguar XJ. On this car the roof area over the rear passenger seating stands a little taller, but still sweeps far back creating little trunk. True test of a 3 box is how close is the base of the rear window to the back of the rear seats? A true 3 box has little to no package tray. A two box, or hybrid heading in that direction has more (and more) package tray.

That’s why I was saying while the design is a mess, they at least didn’t abandon the kink, like the 4er has, as seen below.
Traditional Hof Kink:
4er Kink (which resembles a Camaro or A5):

Thats not to say I love this i7, I don't, but I seriously dislike the computer mouse looks of the EQS.

In my opinion the EQS does not photograph well, but is stunning and eye catching in person. As an example, I think the Taycan sedan is gorgeous, but the other day when at a supercharger next to one, people kept looking at the EQS. One person came up and was gushing about it. The hyperscreen is just visual **** for cars.
Over and over people come up to me and tell me how beautiful the car is. It is really interesting how polarizing the looks are; my wife and I and those we hang out with think it's pretty, so good enough. I do enjoy the alternative perspectives though so keep them coming.
The main thing though is that the EQS range and comfort are truly awesome (coming from a Tesla 100d).
As far as the bmw, nice as well, will need to see in person.

Slower, less range about same price. Unless BMW uses MB new package strategy pricing its going to be like Porsche. The price for virtually the same car goes from 90K to 190k since options can add 100k to the price, ridiculous. The only plus I can see to the I7 is that since it retains a traditional shape it will have more rear headroom. Ergo if you want a chauffeured EV or to use it as a Taxi it will be more accomodating for those chores.

I haven't seen either the EQS or the i7 in person, but just looking at pictures of both I prefer the BMW's exterior appearance. That's my opinion...again just based on pictures. I do currently own an S560 and previously owned a 2017 BMW 750i so I have some knowledge of both brands. Not nearly as much as some others on this forum but I'm someone who is very interested in moving on to an electric luxury vehicle. Again, this is just my opinion based on pictures and it's subject to change.
