BMW i7 vs Mercedes EQS
#101
This 7 was absolutely designed from the get go to be an EV. I want a car that looks like a car, if the EQS is an example of what a "ground up EV" has to be then I pass. I much prefer cars like say the EV Genesis G80 to the new EQ cars from MB.
What I want to see is a true S Class with an EV powertrain. I like the powertrain from the EQS I just can't stand the styling inside or out. I don't like this 7 Series either, but I dislike them for different reasons.
I highly doubt the EQS will handle better than the i7, the EQS is not a great handling car at all.
Just too blingy for me inside, but I like the inside more than the outside.

In fact tge EQS handles superbly, its simply too big and to heavy to be considered fun. It handily out handles the S class, a much lighter car (blame weight distribution). And, despite all the hubub about the Taycan being a drivers car, the numbers are actually vanishingly close in that department. In fact, the performance chops of the Taycan S (non turbo) are almost identical in all respects!

This thread has been fun to read. For starters the EQS 580 is the first Mercedes I've ever owned. I started buying Tesla's in 2014, and after the 4th one, I gave them up. What started as a pretty cool experiment turned into a really horrendous experiment. Phantom braking, fogging over, crappy headlights, REALLY crappy service, the list goes on. So in 2020 I made the decision to give up Tesla and wait until a real car company produced an EV. In the meantime I bought my first BMW. M8 twin turbo. (I hated to give up the speed!). It was fast and dependable, great service, but an embarrassment to start up. If you've ever heard one, you'll know what I mean. About 2 months ago I finally had a chance to drive an EQS 450 and immediately fell in love with it. To hear a lot of you complain about the quality of the MB EV just tells me how remiss I've been all these years in not owning an MB. It is without a doubt the nicest vehicle I've ever owned. I also test drove a BMW EV and agree with a lot of the comments made here, but even with that, either is far above what Tesla has today. I have an acquaintance who is a huge Tesla fanboy and I love to show him the two pictures posted here.

So its an EV designed to also fit a V8......right.

There is nothing sharp handling about the EQS. The S Class is more dynamic for sure. Its just weight.

Lows Disappointing driving dynamics,
The EQS leaves much to be desired when it comes to the basics of everyday driving dynamics. It's neither pleasing nor engaging to drive. Its responses are syrupy, its handling unremarkable, and its odd brake pedal feel creates a sense of disquietude. Mercedes-Benz's gasoline-powered S-class sedan is the cruise ship other luxury-car manufacturers measure their products against. Unfortunately, the EQS EV needs a lot more refinement if it's to reach that same position in the world of EV luxury sedans.

I mean, when you have a car thats the same price as an S Class but is on an all new bespoke EV platform and delivers that EV drivetrain, the differences in interior materials are understandable.

Every review of the EQS disagrees with you about handling, as do I lol.

You are relying on something that places a TESLA as the number one vehicle?
That must be based purely on the 0-60 times of the Plaid because there is absolutely no other metric in which a Tesla Model S could be number one.
Obviously this ranking has absolutely no credibility in regards to handling if they are going to place a Tesla above a Porsche.

I certainly am not "complaining about the quality of the EQS", its just not quite the same material quality inside as an S Class. Its still an extremely nice and high quality automobile, it just feels more like a GLS/GLE or high spec E Class inside.

I drove one for about 30 miles last weekend, then an S580 on the same loop. I like the way it drives, but the S Class is much sharper while riding just as well, both the W223 and my W222. My only issue with the EQS is the design inside and out.

Its Car & Driver lol. Pretty legitimate source. If you read and watch reviews of the car it’s a common thing mentioned. It’s not a handler. Having driven both no question the Model S handles better. EQS rides better.
Im glad you like it.

There is not one human being on this planet that has owned or currently owns both cars that will say the model S drives better than a Taycan!

You guys just lack any objectivity when it comes to this car and its funny, there are negatives to any car. There is no perfect car. Go to the other forums on MBWorld and there is much discussion about shortcomings of their cars and how they could be better, but not in here.
Styling is subjective, you guys like the styling of the car but a lot of people really dislike it, myself included. Its polarizing. If they made an EV that looked like the S Class, and drove just like the EQS I would buy it. My issue with the car is purely styling and subjective. Other carmakers have chosen to build EVs that are much more conventional looking which I think ultimately will be more successful for them. We'll see if thats true.

They havent said that. They said they rate the Model S higher than the Taycan, handling is just one factor. I would 100% buy a Model S over a Taycan for space and range alone. I wouldn't even consider a Taycan.

He'd want the one that was guaranteed to start... that list would not include the Tesla. Many times I got in to a black screen and took a good minute to re-boot.
