Does charging cable lock when car locks?

My Tesla would lock the charging cable when tjhe doors were locked. This prevented any unauthorized removal (or disappearance) of the cable. I tried connecting my portable level 2 charge cable and locked the car. It came right out! Am I doing something incorrectly or do I have to come up with a creative way to keep my $300 investment safe while it's charging?

Yes, I was told that it will be locked, in step with the car.

That would make sense...but mine is "out of step" with the car.

Well, I hope what I was told is correct and your car would be fixed to behave that way.
It'd be kind of bad for public charging if the charging cable could be removed by anyone walking by.

Okay...dilemma is solved! My non-techie wife explained to me that as long as I was standing next to the charge port WITH THE KEY in my pocket...blah blah blah. Only my wife can cure 'stupid."

Im not so sure about that, I will have to check next time I charge. I think you can unlock it at any time by pusing the button. Ill have to check. I read somewhere that unplugging had become a problem in some places.

Mine does lock when I am not standing next to the car with the key in my pocket! Fortunately my NEMA 14-50 cable is one piece, so the worst that can happen is it gets unplugged from the charger box. Several times a year I park in a public lot for 7 days at a time. Some Tesla owners have had the NEMA 14-50 adapter disappear. Cable stays in the car by they lose the adapter that Tesla no longer includes with the car.

The Tesla tap comes with a hole where you can put a little lock to lock the trigger and "prevent" theft of the adapter which we know is not cheap. You can pull the tesla plug out but not the adapter.
