EQS 450+
Bike Rack Options?

So I bought my 450+ from the showroom a few weeks ago kind of impulsively...didn't realize the aftermarket bike rack I used with my Tesla wouldn't work with the EQS. Anyone aware of any options available? No tow package on my 450+...is that a possibility aftermarket?

I've used a SeaSucker Talon on my last two coupes. They have other racks for multiple bikes as well. I don't want an actual rack on the roof or hanging off the rear of the car. The SeaSucker racks quickly go on using suction cup mounts. Never had an issue with it. The bike stays up there. The only thing is you can't really secure it. They do have a cable that you can clip in the window and secure it to the bike, but doesn't work with frameless windows. That's not really an issue for me, though. I don't really stop anywhere with my bike on the roof. Just go for a ride and then back. If I stop somewhere I just take the bike down and lock it to a pole. It's so quick to mount and dismount the rack that it isn't much of a bother.

Id be very weary of putting any suction cap rack on the EQS. The glass panels are not meant for any weight bearing, never mind torsional stress. Least of all the, sunroof. Thats why the racks are mounted on the roofrails. Imagine the bad day if the thing popped off at 75mph and the bike crashed into the rear of the car not to mention another vehicle. A bad expensive day indeed.

Nah, the roof including the glass panels are stronger than you think. They have to survive and protect the occupants in case of a flip over. Both my coupes have/had panorama roofs. I mount it right on the glass towards the edges, though, and never had any issues. They recommend not to drive faster than 75 mph, but I've driven faster. They actually have a YouTube video strapping one of these on a NASCAR and go around the track at full speed. Definitely felt a little uneasy at first, but I had this rack now for almost 5 years.

In fact no. If you flip the car the roof panels will shatter into a million pieces. They are not made of laminated glass. It is safety glass of the same grade as the side windows. Again, not recommended, at all. Im also sure that if you asked the manufacturer of the rack they would tell you the same thing.

Up to you ultimately, but no the manufacturer does not say that. It's specifically approved to be mounted on metal, glass and carbon fiber.

I'd certainly be nervous about that. Maybe be looking for a trunk mount option, or see if Invisihitch or Stealth Hitch makes one.

Yeah, you have to be comfortable with it, but a bicycle is very light unless we are talking e-bike and then it's a different story. As said the weight limit specified by the manufacturer is 45 lbs for the Talon. A bicycle also barely has any surface area, so it cuts through the wind. I think folks are overestimating the forces at work. We are not talking a 200 lbs roof box with a frontal area and poor aerodynamics. That kinda stuff needs to be mounted with a proper rack on the roof frame obviously. As said, I have about 5 years of first hand experience with this rack. I don't think twice about putting my bicycle on the roof now. There's no known case of bikes coming down with these. BTW, they use custom versions of these racks at the Tour de France and other bicycling events to transport the bikes.

I'd also be hesitant to use a suction cap rack on the EQS. The glass panels are not intended for weight carrying, much alone torsional stress. Last but not least, the sunroof. This is why the racks are attached to the roofrails. Imagine if the thing blew up at 75 mph and the bike collided with the back of the car, not to mention another vehicle. That was a pricey day.

There are rooftop attachment points, thus its most definiteky doable.
