I was told that this new update was to address the specific MBUX issues I experienced. Even though my MBUX came back on the next morning, and everything was operating normally, they kept my car for a couple of days to complete the update. Several of the screens are different, and I had to redo all my favorites, and many of my settings, but all is well now.

Not saying that specifically, but I personally would have waited until scheduled service (1 year, 20K miles) if I was having no problem. I only went in because my MBUX crashed, and they told me there was an update that addressed that. As far as OTA updates, I believe those are for small things. This was a major update which, as they explained it to me, has to be retrieved from Germany and downloaded over several hours. That's hard to do OTA.

My EQS 580 would not connect to the MB servers in Atlanta to set up my profile. The fix was to update the "head unit" software to 316.505. That solved the problem. Like hlothery, I had to update settings, etc, but everything is now correct. We have another EQS 580 with the older version of the software. Everything is OK with that car; I will wait until I need to bring it in for service unless some bug appears.

Getting the dealer to do the upgrade was as challenging for me as it has been for several others but persistence prevails.

My prior 2021 S-Class and my current 2022 EQS450+ have a similar MBUX, but one thing I missed was the A-Z index on the right side of the screen while choosing Artist, Albums, Track, etc. It was so annoying that I found myself not searching for something else to listen to as often. I had the latest upgrade installed 3 weeks ago and today I noticed the index column is back! This is BIG for people that have large music libraries. Thank you Mercedes!
I also noticed many other changes, but not too many that matter to me. Another one was I always wondered why when you went to the Massage screen the top default program was one with heat. The update changed the sort order so one without heat is first and you only have to press Start. Not a big deal, but it is better (for me).
The software update was not the primary reason for my service visit, but while there I explained that my center screen was not always ready to use when I started the car. Sometimes it was, sometimes it took a minute or more. I turned off the haptic clicking sounds in my settings, but the times the screen was not available the clicking would sound if you touched the screen. I assume it was because the MBUX did not yet load a user profile, in my case default user. This behavior was inconsistent and the reason I asked for the software update.
The inconsistent behavior still is present, but now the most the screen is not available is 3-4 seconds (or less) after starting the car (not a minute or more). Prior to the update I also had many different error messages on the driver screen that I had to press enter to dismiss. They were usually on colder days, but I haven't had any in the 3 weeks since the update.
The primary reason for the visit was the charge flap port error stating the flap was open when it wasn't. That was fixed in August, but came back around February. It appears to be fixed properly now.
