Because it looks 100X better this way. While you may disagree, it is a generational thing. This is why most OEMs offer the option of a "Night package" or "Black trim" package.
The EQS lacks the bespoke finishing options of the S-Class - which is why some of us have had to improvise to reduce the amount of chrome.
Have a look at what the people on the Porsche forums say.

Please be easy on me since this is a controversial subject. Please explain to me why some of you do away with the original look of the EQS by painting every shiny ((chrome) part black. In my opinion, that looks ugly. I know. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I just don’t get it.

No offense taken. I keep my cars for a long time. All the paint changes you are not paint changes. Its nothing but PPF over the body and film over the chrome. In 5 or 6 years I will remove all this and it will be like have a brand new car for next 5-6 years. If Mercedes was offering Matte Black paint in USA I would have ordered it but its only available in Europe. For me after spending this amount of money to have a dream car I want make sure I get exactly what I want even if means spend few extra dollars. No regrets. Also as mentioned in one other thread it will be a long time before I will see another car that looks exactly like mine. To me that is important for now and why I didn't go for Tesla because every 3rd or 4th car here in California is a Tesla.

I. too, might be taking delivery (of a new EQS SUV) soon. I'm confused about which "Mercedes Benz" app (for the iPhone/iOS) I should install. I see two different apps on the iOS app store: "Mercedes Me Connect", and "Mercedes Me". Which one should I install?

Would have been a problem for my dad too. He always wore hats. I think he liked Dobbs fedora style. He use to buy them at Batsakes in downtown Cincy. I think you said you live in the Cincy area.

1) Check the window sticker to make sure it has all the correct options you ordered. Not much recourse if they don't given the wait time.
2) Inspect the car for any physical damage or issues (panel alignment etc.) since it's best to point these out before you take delivery.
3) Ask them to help you set up the Mercedes Me service so it is functioning before you leave, including the EV charging account
Everything else I wouldn't worry about because if some feature is not working properly, you can always fix it under warranty.
Usually they will as part of the delivery process walk you through MBUX, pair your phone, and help you configure the main settings the way you want.
