Tonight the passenger part of the hyperscreen went black all of sudden in my year old 580 EQS. Freaked me out! Played around with everything and could not get it to display. Just by accident I turned off "Graphical Goodies" and the display returned. Kind of a stupid option anyway so leaving it OFF. It all seems related to the Xmas Easter Eggs, snow graphics and santa hat on my Avatar. I suppose they planned some kitschy scene for the passenger that glitched when loading. (Bah Humbug)
Was this the passenger screen that turned off? If so, I believe this is a safety feature. The passenger screen will turn on with the goodies enabled if there is someone sitting in the passenger seat.

Same thing here. It still works when you sit in the passengers seat.
I called MB customer care. They are getting several reports of this. Blaming on software update error. Odd only 2 reports on this forum. Very aggravating to partially lose an $11,000 option but at least it's not broken.
Why lightup the passenger display when there is no passenger to use it? It is no different than not enabling a passenger seat airbag when there is no passenger in the seat.

The hyperscreen has stock photos, a compass, and a clock to display at all times. I can't speak for everyone, but when the passenger screen is off, it's now more of a distraction because it feels as though something is wrong. If this is a glitch, they should know to fix. Even if the fix is to enable the default options to show. I would prefer random holiday images or constant snow/leaves falling (Which I can see as being too distracting).
Mine looks like this now with empty passenger seat.
I can’t seem to turn it on by myself as others have said. Haven’t had a passenger yet to make sure it turns on when they are seated.
Edit: Had my nephew sit in seat and immediately the on/off button popped up.

I’m think the issue is with the graphical goodies. I once noticed a similar issue last year when I drove one. When no one was in the passenger seat, turning on graphical goodies would put the wallpaper back up on the passenger side.
I had some similar occurrences: My passengers screen with my wife in the passenger seat defaulted to the same as the middle screen. It could not be changed, i restarted several time and no movement. left it over night and when I got in the passenger screen off and could not be turned back on even with my wife sitting there. I scheduled to take it to service dept. I like the compass/elevation screen as I travel in the hills alot.
Same problem on my AMG EQS, passenger screen went blank and cannot restore... had kept it displaying the compass until two days ago when went blank. Contacted dealer who does not have an explanation and made service appointment for January 9th. Third technologic issue since delivery less than 3-months ago.
Also discovered the AMG logo on the back of the key wearing off yet only keep the key in my right pants pocket with nothing else but a plastic comb. Dealer has obtained a replacement back cover for my next service visit.
Lastly disappointed on available range during winter here in Philadelphia area. Went to 90% charge and with heating find a realistic maximum of 100 miles before down to no more than 20% remaining. Have the Charge Point in my garage, so easy to recharge but expected range to be more like the minimum displayed after 90% that is about 150 miles.

And now you know why I didn't order an AMG. The increase in performance did not warrant the loss of range. Even in temperatures in the single digits, I getting real world range of 275 miles which for my situation is acceptable. If I lived in an area with abundant DC charging maybe an AMG might not be a penalty.
I had lost mine as well, about 2-weeks ago, yet it returned on its own, 3-days ago. Have service appointment scheduled for January 9th so will see in the interim if it remains. I keep it on the compass when no one in the seat.
