2023 EQS 580
Real World EQS Range

I’m starting a new thread to discuss EQS range. I’d like to know what people are experiencing. We have a 2023 EQS 580 sedan. We love it! Best car we have ever owned. However, we are disappointed so far with the range. I have driven 934 total miles and consumed 359kWh of electricity. This works out to 384 wh/mi or 2.6 mi/kWh. The edmunds article below states 2.86 mi/kWh is the official claim from MB for the 450+ sedan.

https://insideevs.com/news/547726/me...ds-range-test/

On my last charge, I charged from 19 to 80% adding 74kWh. The charge point app estimates I added 236 miles of range. My actual range would be 194 miles and MBs official number would yield 213 miles. If I use edmunds actual for the 450+ they tested, it would add 253 miles. I know these numbers seem close, but we are talking about a delta of 10 to 30%. What are others experiencing as Average consumption under trip data within the Mercedes Me connect app?

Those tests are under the most perfect conditions and generally not real world. If we drove on perfectly flat roads, the exact recommended tire pressures, modest acceleration, the perfect battery temperature and no wind those numbers are achievable.

When the outside temperature is in the high 60s or warmer, I get way over 400 miles in city driving at 100% charge on my 580. If I remember correctly from last summer, on Interstates, I was getting at least 380 miles driving at speeds of 65-70 mph. It’s a totally different picture with frigid temperatures colder than 20 degrees F. Under those conditions I get about 280-300 miles. If it’s close zero F, the range is diminished even more. The colder it is the less the range. c4004matic pointed out that if you set the climate control to ECO+ the range increases substantially even if the seat is being heated at max level. The heated seat does very little to reduce the range.

There are a number of threads here on this subject, and a huge number of posts.

The simple fact seems to be that there is no rule on mileage or any aspect of it., Everything you do in and with your car affects your range. You'll just have to adjust to it.

I've had my 450+ for thirteen months, and I love it. I have learned to roll with what I get. That's the way it is.

Here's my exact stats
10 mths
10524 miles.
3560 kw used
Average 338 watts/mile
Temperatures -20 to 100 F
Speed up to 130 mph normally 65-70
Basicly, 3 miles /KW under all conditions.

Conclusion: EQS 580 is a FRIGGING AWESOME EV!
BTW all this info is tracked by the app.

How do you find the total number of KW used? Mine is 9 months old with around 8500 miles on it. I have driven in temperatures of -15 to 102 F.

That sounds pretty consistent with the EPA rating. What is the source of the the kW number? Have you every compared the car's Kw delta with that of a charger's?

On my last charge, I charged from 19 to 80% adding 74kWh. The charge point app estimates I added 236 miles of range. My actual range would be 194 miles and MBs official number would yield 213 miles. If I use edmunds actual for the 450+ they tested, it would add 253 miles. I know these numbers seem close, but we are talking about a delta of 10 to 30%. What were the ambient temperatures that correspond to your consumption figure?

None of the tests use the car as a daily driver and then check consumption figures when the battery runs out. Your last trip was "reasonable", not really short but not a long trip either. Even during the summer it makes a difference if you drive multiple trips or if you drive one from 100% (or 80%) SOC down to 20% (or so) and then check the consumption. During winter multiple "cold starts" makes consumption completely different from a single start and a longish trip.

The EQS may just set priority for comfort and then may consume more battery on short trips than some other car (on default settings). Very difficult to get any apples-to-apples comparison for daily driving.

Not there in my app. Of course, I have only charged at home. My 450+ is just used as a DD and short road trip car locally, and gets fantastic mileage in the Summer, and pretty good in the Winter. But I cannot find figures like you published. Since my last reset at 2794 miles ago, I have averaged 3.5mpkWh, mostly in temps between 20-60 degrees farenheit. I have just over 12K miles on my car.

Thanks, this is what I was looking for. These are great numbers. Btw, I switched to eco + this morning. Temp was 51. I used a combination of strong regen and no regen. I got 313wh/mi. The eco + setting makes an enormous difference. In my case, difference between 290 miles on a full charge and over 420.

When you use eco for the climate control the range in cold weather increases dramatically, but, it might be a bit chilly for some. I dont know at what temp it keeps the cabin but it feels high 50s to low 60s.. The first time I used it the car had 3 passengers and it was sleeting (heavily). I had to turn it off because of fogging. However in colder temps with just me in the car it does work quite well. One of these days Ill bring along a thermometer to check the cabin temp. Though we are warming up the next week or so......

If that’s all the range you get (especially in city driving) in the winter then there is something wrong with your car.
