Dash Camera

I have been running the dash cam in my EQS for the last 6 months using a 1TB thumb drive. This week I received a message stating that the dash camera couldn't record. I replaced the drive with a spare I had and everything worked normally again.

I was thinking that maybe the first drive was full, and a reformat would fix everything. Oddly, I cannot access the drive on either my newer MacBook Air with USB C or my wife's computer with USB A.

Anyone else run into thumb drive issues with the dash cam?

There is a setting you can change which allows the system to over write older files as new ones are recorded.

Sounds like the drive might have failed. Does it not show up at all on the Mac using disk utility?

I agree, I think the flash drive failed. Flash drives really are not intended for sustained writes. I would get a Samsung T7 or SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD. A 1TB SSD won't cost too much, and has multiple flash modules and firmware with wear leveling to help improve the lifespan of the drive.

It does not show up in disk utility, I think as others have said, the drive has failed. I just ordered a SSD so hopefully that will work and last.

Same thing has happened to me. I was going to replace the drive. I was thinking it was because it was a cheap USB drive but now I'm wondering if the car killed the drive.

My car arrives tomorrow...I might as well get the memory card ordered. What does it use? Micro SD? Is there a GB limit?

USB C. Get a good quality 256GB or 512GB. That is more than enough. Stay away from TB drives. just My opinion.

You might also look into some similiar 90 degree adapters, depending on what type of USB drives you use, so your USB drives don’t stick out horizontally and get in your way when accessing the center console.

I don't see dashcam option on my EQS 450 SUV. Is this add-on option they are selling for $200 as part of Mercedes me connect apps?

As far as I know, any of the USB ports will work. (Personally, I use one of the ports in the center armrest stowage area - with a 90 degree adaptor to stop the memory stick from sticking out)

There a camera icon in the upper right corner of the screen and when press it you toggle the camera to loop recording/overwrite the file. I find this annoying that you have to do this every time you start the car am i missing something?

In my 2022 EQS450+ only the usb ports in the center armrest stowage area work for dashcam recoding. I tried all other USB ports but they dont work to record on dashcam.

@23-EQS580-SUV Once you select loop recording 1 time it keeps that setting. there is no need to do that each time you start the car.

I only set mine the first time and it has stayed in the loop setting for 5 months now.

Same thing happened to me. I think the drive got corrupted somehow. I use the same drive for my extensive audio collection and that wouldn't work either. I replaced the drive and its been peaches since. Sometimes USB's just die! I still use the same drive for my music which has about 5k files of FLAC files of normal and high def files.

Tbh, a cheap 128gb drive from a good brand (San disk, Kingston etc) is enough. You don’t need a big drive for days or weeks record,

The dashcam requires some prerequisites, not sure if all EQS vehicles have this. Go to Mercedes me and if the dashcam add-on is there then you can purchase it.
