Actually this is more than just EQS - but we just care about EQ models here. :-)
Available to more than 700,000 vehicles worldwide with the second-generation MBUX1, these updates include the availability of Dolby Atmos, enhancements to Voice Assistant, and upgrades to the navigation and entertainment functionality.

In the US at least, the Zync and Dolby Atmos activation must be done as a dealer visit. Campaign 2023070020 will update several control units and give everyone rear seat pillows
This is to notify you of the Service Campaign Launch to update the software for various control units in 2,015 Model Year (“MY”) 2022-2023 EQS (297 platform) vehicles. The vehicles will be visible and flagged in VMI as “OPEN” on August 22, 2023. An additional 12,445 vehicles will be visible and flagged in VMI as “OPEN” on September 15, 2023. Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that on certain MY 2022-2023 EQS (297 platform) vehicles, the software for various control units does not meet current specifications. An extensive optimization update will be implemented on the affected vehicles. Also, a special procedure has already been implemented in Xentry. The software updates will include, but are not limited to, increased system robustness, increased augmented reality camera quality, implementation of the Zync-App for video streaming via the head unit, and implementation of Dolby Atmos for an improved audio experience.

This is incorrect. If you want all of the 40-50 different control units in your car updated you need to go in. For just the head unit -i.e. the 2.4 mbux update you do not need to go in - that is OTA. admittedly there is confusion but this has been verified and the OTA updates are already rolling out in waves.
Further don't even bother going in before you personally get notified of the campaign. If you haven't been notified then you auto will not appear in their system as being part of the campaign and the dealer will not do the campaign because they will not get reimbursed from MBUSA

Has anyone with an EQS or EQS SUV receive the MBUX 2.4 update yet? The announcement said it was rolling out in September, but I'm guessing it must be a start month because I've checked and haven't receive my update yet.

Depending on when you purchased your car or whether you have gone to the dealer and they updated your head unit software, your car may already have the 2.4 update, and therefore, an over the air update is not necessary.
One way to tell is whether you car has Dolby Atmos for apple music already. If so, you already have the update.

That is part of the Level 2 assisted driving mode, and is required to make sure your are alert and in control. I try to hold the steering wheel with just enough pressure to avoid the message but not impact the steering direction.

Oops. I just assumed you were driving on the straight road with cruise control enabled and wanted the car to take care of the driving
Active Steering Assist can be turned off from Settings >> Assistance >> Driving and deactivate Active Steering Assist.
