Is it worth it? Hell yes!. Take the 580 and dial the power and handling to 11. It most definitely feels like a proper sports sedan, like the original Hammer, but now with manners. Loved it. 😍
I have a 580, I tested the AMG. IMO if you are performance oriented, its definitely worth the price differential, quicker reflexes, brakes that are noticeably more direct and have better feel, even more power. From the specs, it doesn't seem much of an improvement, but from behind the wheel its most definitely worth the additional coin. Loved it. The "Manufaktur" interior is most definitely a significantly more sumptous place to be compared to the non pinnacle 580 interior. Finally its only rated 20 miles less (300) of range than the 580. Zero pain indeed. I wish it had been available when I ordered my 580 2 yrs ago.
I have to agree that what's on paper doesn't tell the whole story when the tire actually meets the road. 1/2 second on paper is actually about 2 car lengths. Add real world reaction time, and gearing. There are only a few ICE with a tranny on the road that compares to an EV AMG either from a standstill or definitely not from a roll. It usually game over by the time the ICE driver downshifts if he or she isn't in the right gear. I've driven 600+ HP ICE such as the F488 GTB and a few others. The instant acceleration from 60 mph to 100 mph in EQS AMG comes in a flash and is jarring for the unexpected passengers. The G force from a roll (60mph) is similar if not faster than a 5 seconds 0-60 ICE. Doing all this in near silence is surreal, too. However, in cornering, the weight of the EV, despite technological nannies, is no sports car, but just one of the best sports sedan to date. It's definitely a sleeper and a vehicle with selectable modes from Dr.Jekyll to Mr. Hyde, or somewhere in between. It's my John Wick suit.

I have to agree.
And as a bonus, it's never punishing, not even in sport plus.

I have a Manufaktur interior too and quite like it.
I noticed that one of the dealers here sold a used 2022 AMG with under 5k miles for $89k. The same dealer sold that car 2 years ago new for about $215k at a $50k ADM.

Ok the reason I asked it that it is my understanding the that braking was improved for the 2024 models so I am thinking that the braking improvement you cited is more likely due to that than the AMG model. In other words the improved braking may not be present on a 2022 EQS AMG.
Exactly the same. Sprort plus was noticeably stiffer but not harsh at all. However in sport plus the handling was excellent, very quick reflexes. Of course it's not a Miata, but solid and almost tossable. The understeer of the regular EQS when pushed hard is completely exorcised. There's even mild oversteer in sharp powered corners. It feels unflappable. The brakes have good positive feel. Im sure the brake's behavior is entirely software based and could be "transferred" to the other models. I wishe MB would simply offer to unlock all the "restricted software" for a fee just like they did for the Trackpace app. I would be more than willing to pay for the goodies already in the car that are simply hidden away in the software. No subscriptions, just one time fees.

They wanted 165 for it. If they are so desparate to sell, Id expect no less than 20% off.
Waste of money. You'd be better off keeping the 580 and adding something fun to the garage like a Used 718 Boxster with a manual transmission. You know - an antidote when you feel you need some engagement
Driving EVs has made me crave something fully analog. I'm putting my Corvette on the market and going to replace it with a Porsche 718 GTS 4.0 with a 6 speed manual.
Slower, fatter, clumsier. And to my eye, much uglier. Roomier rear seat, thats about it.
To my eye the i7 is dramatically more attractive to the EQS. Drives much better, much nicer interior, far more comfortable...
If you look at most comparison tests the i7 comes out ahead. C&D actually rates the EQE over the EQS, but even that is #10, i7 #3, EQS is #13, EQS AMG is actually behind it at #14:
I have 23'. When you driving spirited in strong regen, you really have to get used to it because the brakes will feel harder. Additionally, the throttle is different between no regen vs. strong regen. For example, the software provides more throttle power in normal and no regen mode compared to strong regen mode despite the accelerator pedal being in the same position. As for the brake pedal, unless you drive with two feet, the software applies and moves the pedal in strong regen.
I see how car reviewers don't like AMG programming. I, too, was somewhat in the same boat. However, I drive with two feet, so the transition was quick. But the programming to the accelerator pedal takes a bit more time. Drive in no regen solves all the problem.
In spirited driving, I put it in no regen sport+. Triple digit freeway navigation is a breeze and every car around you feels stationary. Double the recommended speed on curves is a piece of cake (disclaimer: most not all). When in no regen, there no surprise except not noticing how quick the damn thing can get to triple digit and beyond. On sharper curves, and high speed left turns, some people may perceive it as oversteering because they are not used to the rear wheel steering nanny. I've had it on my 7er for 10 years, so not that much different on the EQS.
I'd take car reviews with a grain of salt. It really depends on how much experience they have with EV. EQS AMG can't compare to the Taycan 4S/GTS or beyond in the driving dynamics. Forget about the Plaid. That thing is wicked. I have no experience with Lucid. As for the i7 m70, I was going to get that one, but the deal on the AMG EQS was too good to pass up at the time. I'm glad I didn't get the i7 because quite honestly, BMW went major barge size on the i7. I just needed to change up this time around.
The i7 feels remarkably small to drive for its size, but the feeling of size is one thing I personally like in a big car like this. I want it to look and feel big.
My F02 (BMW) is 205 inches. The EQS is about 207 inch. The i7 is about 212. That' probably longer then a Ford F150. Too long for me. I got one kid in college, 1 learning to drive, and 1 backseat queen left. In few more years, I'm getting into shorter and shorter cars, but not a 2 door. Definitely a shorter EV.

Luxury is subjective. So Lucid as #1 with its crazy buggy software is considered luxury?
The Model S as #8? I don't think many of us would take a Model S over an EQS.
Personally, I'd take the EQE over an i5, G80, or e-tron. I do know I'd take an EQE AMG over the EQS having both as loaners recently.
Having owned an Audi etron-GT and Tesla Model S Performance, driven Taycan Cross Turismo and EQE, EQS 580 for us by far the best option. EQS is somewhat a weird car; it is not a pure limousine due to back seat (and looks?), is is not a pure sports sedan, but all in all it might be the best car in the market for everyday family life. We have two children and they love being in the back (regular seats with no adjustments). It has a huge amount of space, while still being very agile in town. I like the looks (full chrome delete and black with 21") as it does not draw too much attention.
Last summer we did 5000km road trip from Finland to Sweden, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands and it was perfect with huge range, very comfortable, quiet, and surprisingly good in spirited driving. The car received major software upgrade what clearly changed the suspension to be firmer. Only issue what I had was the speed limiter of 210kmh..
For me, EQS is pure everyday luxury; everything works, everything is dialed to 11.
