When you call someone an idiot, for the mere transgression of disagreeing, you are claiming intellectual superiority, with little to no evidence. As a proposition, it’s no more compelling than the old kindergarten rubber/glue proposal.

My insurance also shot up considerably. I did shop around, and there were some options that were cheaper. Then you unbundle home/auto, and the savings become much less. I agree that at this point in time EV's, particularly luxury EV's are going to be more expensive to own. I simply enjoy driving an EV that much more than ICE.

And bundling has become more difficult as some insurers won't write policies on homes in flood, hurricane and wildfire districts.

Interesting article, but I'm not sure why vehicle fires are cited on the basis of total miles driven by EVs versus ICEs, instead of simply population of each type of vehicle.

....and age. Most ICE fires occur in older cars with aging fuel lines that start leaking. EVs on the roads are not old enough to show age related issues yet.

23 EQS 450 4matic sedan
After years of frustrating pursuit, I struck gold consistently with auto insurance rates from Costco affiliates. However, there were times when the renewal quotes nearly gave me whiplash, doubling within six months. My brief stint at an insurance agency helping an ailing friend shed light on the complex factors influencing regional risk ratings. Initially, I was floored, in the best way, by a $659 six-month insurance quote for my 23 EQS 450. But the renewal nearly knocked me off my feet at almost $1300 for SIX MONTHS! That's when I decided, "Not today!" After being brushed off by Erie Insurance for years, I managed to lock in an incredible annual rate (12 months) of $1239, complete with Rate-Lock to shield me from any potential rate increases. Erie's unique features, such as diminishing deductibles and enhanced coverage with Erie Auto Plus, truly set them apart in the insurance industry. Some markets may be doomed to high rates, but seriously, some of these quotes are enough to make you lose your lunch. I count my lucky stars, especially in a state like KY, which has consistently high rates.

When I took Statistics in college, the prof introduced the class saying, "There are lies, there are damn lies, and there are statistics." Mostly, we learned that data can be twisted in many ways.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, there are pros and cons to both EV's and ICE's, with no clear winner at this point, personally I'm glad we have options to choose between them both.

Just a heads up insurance rates have gone up for EVERYTHING! Insurance companies climate related disasters have been bleeding insurance companies into losses for years. In a number of markets like Fla and California they are simply pulling out. As Dorothy said "we are not in Kansas abymore.... In NOLA, insurance for a car can be almost as much your car payment!
