How to convert temp display from fahrenheit to celsius in EQS

Hi,

I have a US based EQS 450+ Sedan and I couldn't figure out how to change the outside temp display from fahrenheit to celsius. I was however able to figure out how to switch between Miles to KM.

Does anyone know how to switch from fahrenheit to celsius?

thank you

In Mercedes Me, select the "hamburger menu" in the upper left corner.
Settings>Units>Temperature>Celsius.
I would like to think this will synchronize with the car and change it there, but I'm not 100% sure. Unfortunately, I'm not anywhere near my car right now so I can't experiment.

Hi there, it also really bothers me. I have been born and raised metric (just like the geniuses in Sindelfingen who assembled my car before it was imported to the US), but Fahrenheit, really ????

The problem is that one can change the temp display from F to C in the phone app. but it's not synchronized to the car.

I complained to the CEO of MBUSA, who responded that he talked to the Germans and they responded with "not possible"

Then I wrote a very friendly letter to the MB guys in Sindelfingen.

Update: They removed the temp unit (F/C) from the phone app. That's not what I wanted ... sorry guys.

Let's see if someone here can guide you on this... after all, that's what a good forum is for, right?

First off, hats off to you guys for the detective work, especially for escalating this all the way to the CEO. When the official word comes back from Germany as "not possible," that's pretty much the end of the road for most people.

Here’s the thing, though. They're not exactly lying, but they're not telling you the whole truth, either.

This isn't just a missing button in a menu. Your car's identity was set at the factory. Every US-market Mercedes gets SA Code 494 (U.S. Version) burned into its configuration. Think of it as a digital passport stamp. That code tells the car to lock certain things, like the temperature display, to US imperial standards. It's a deliberate, non-user-configurable setting. The only reason you can switch from Miles to KM is because federal law requires it for cross-border travel.

So when corporate says "not possible," what they really mean is "we won't let you do that."

But the software underneath is the same everywhere. The function is in there, just waiting to be unlocked.

The Real Solution: Variant Coding

You can't change it from the driver's seat, but it can be changed from the backend. The process is called variant coding, and it’s essentially a surgical strike on the car's core software.

A specialist with the right professional tools (the official dealer system is XENTRY, but the real power tools are engineering suites like DTS Monaco) can plug directly into your car's brain. They go into the Head Unit (HU) or Instrument Cluster (IC) module and flip the switch for the temperature display from the locked "Fahrenheit" setting to "Celsius" or even "User Selectable."

How You Actually Get This Done
  1. Forget The Dealer: Your service advisor will look at you like you have three heads if you ask for this. They are forbidden from modifying a car away from its original US-spec configuration.
  2. Find a Coder: The people who do this are independent specialists. You can find them on the big Mercedes forums. They work remotely—you connect a laptop to your car, they log in, and a few minutes later, your problem is solved for a fee.
So when Mercedes tells you it's "impossible," just remember what that really means. It's impossible for them to help you. For someone who knows what they're doing, it's a ten-minute job.
