Tesla Charging Network

I heard Nissan just got access to Tesla's charging network. Any idea why the german automakers seem to lagging behind some of the lesser brands?

Why do we want access? And then there’s Elon. Get a home charger for best efficiency and use ChargePoint when traveling. Our cars have PLENTY of range for almost any scenario.

Look on the bright side. Every time another brand gets to use Tesla's network, that makes it more likely that Electrify America stations will be available :-)

We have a home charger and we have for the most part no issues with traveling except for the reliability of the public charging network. My main reason for wanting access is for those times where you need a backup plan and not for my primary charging which we use EA (free for now), Chargepoint, EVgo, and Circle K recharge depending on where we are while traveling.

Because it's the most available and efficient and best maintained charging network. I've used the others, but the newer MB chargers and the Tesla chargers are the best. For my part, I'm just looking for as many options as I can get to have rapid charging available while traveling. I love my EQS!

... because the overpaid executives at Electrify America are completely incompetent. VW created EA and this is what happened on TFL's first road trip in a brand-new ID Buzz:

EA in my town has improved we have new chargers less than a year old in one area. We also have some old chargers at the Best Buy location that were upgraded. But in my town where I was born there are no EA chargers within 40 miles in a large college metro city which is strange. I would welcome more chargers of any type.

I haven't really used any of the free two year EA charging sessions that came with my 2023 EQE 500 SUV. Tested plug and charge when I first got it for about 5 minutes but the 150kW charger had been derated to less than 50kW so I left. Tried to use it a few times after that just to find broken chargers and lines of people waiting for the working ones. So I pretty much never tried again. Maybe if they had built one closer to me (closest is 30 minutes away) but they haven't built any new ones anywhere in Houston as far as I can tell. Meanwhile Tesla put in 16 new ones just a few miles away.

Really wishing I had bought EVGO stock at $2 (now $6) a few months ago. They're clearly kicking EA's ****.

VW created it, but it was part of the Dieselgate settlement. They really did not want to do it, and it shows.

Tesla charging network

Just finished a round trip from Boston to Marlton NJ.
started @ 100%, got to White Plains NY @ Tesla Magic dock station. Not bad as car averaged 126 kw until 80% ( we needed time for lunch). Mostly Teslas, but did see several Rivians queueing up in our charge time.
At destination, found a 40 station Magic dock location @ a local resort hotel. They were the latest generation chargers. Went down from the first 8 stations & started charging. Not as good as the generation before magic dock used previously. Car % @ start was about 42%. Average was about 80 kw. Took a few minutes on first charging session above to figure out the process, but other-wise not any worse than an EA as the Tesla’s all worked.

I think this guy sums up the current state of affairs in the USA pretty well. Even with access the current crop of fast-charging vehicles from companies like Hyundai and Lucid don't really benefit. And the main cause of the delay was Elon firing everyone. OK then, moving right along...

Here in the ATL EA chargers are solid. Haven't found one broken one yet and have been to at least 3 different charging stations in the area. With their partnership with Costco I could see them opening up and giving Tesla a run. My car will NEVER see a Tesla charging station if I have anything to do with it!

EQS
I pulled up to an EA charger a few nights ago and the entire bank was out of order.

The EA people told me that they were sending someone out as soon as they could and wished me a good night (very polite, but didn't solve my problem).

Had to backtrack 20-30 miles to a car dealer and charge at Chargepoint at 62.5kw, which meant waiting around an hour at 11 at night.

Having the option of going to a Tesla supercharger (which was just three exits over from where I was in this instance) would have been really nice.

I mean, if it was just a few people having the same experience but here's what happened when Out Of Spec Dave took his wife's Porsche Macan EV on its first road trip:

Once again - Electrify America chargers are often very busy in large towns/cities (but less so along freeways, in smaller towns). But if you are in a large town/city and the Electrify America chargers are all in use, you can usually find another fast charger (e.g. ChargePoint or EVgo) that's non-free not too far away. Just go there instead; if you can afford an EQS, you can afford to pay a few $$ for charging when you're on a road trip.

... or instead of waiting years for someone to take the problem seriously and do something about it, you could just buy a Tesla Model S instead of an EQS. Tada! Problem solved!

Haha.....no way in the world that is happening! That's like exchanging your S580 for a Kia, just to buy regular gas. NOT happening.

Frickin' stock has a PE of 120 and still going up. Selling out has its advantages. I'm not buying one either though. My soul is worth more than a Model X.
