Burning smell after charging

I have an EQS AMG. Been flawless and reliable for the past year. Last night I was charging it up at home (from about 20% to 100%). After it was done charging I noticed my garage had a slight smell of burning plastic.

The car was wet, but aside from that it was not that cold (about 45F / 7C) although my garge was probably warmer than that.

Should I worry? The smell was not real strong, but it was there.

There was one report on the EQS board of a home wiring issue associated with charging. Is your charger hardwired or plugged in?

Same one here. It's now 2 weeks ago with no other problems. What type of charger do you use?

Plugged in. Its a ChargePoint Home Flex plugged into a 50A NEMA 14-50 outlet.

Check the wall plug. Though all your specs are appropriate not all wall plugs are the same despite the same specs. I would not be surprised if you found some charred components. Unsurprisingly installers that are not up to snuff on EV requirements often fail to install tge right components. One of the OG's of the board found out that the installer had used wrong gauge wire only after the plug melted.

Specifically, most of the 240V outlets are not designed for continuous load but instead for things like dryers or ovens that don't run at max current for a long time (> 3hrs). You need an outlet rated for continuous load, not the $10 or $15 outlets at the hardware store. A continuous duty outlet should run about $50 or more.

Hmm, this may be the issue. I did not install the outlet. It was installed when we remodeled the house. The electrician was an idiot and probably did not realize the outlet was for car charging, even though it was an outlet in the garage. I have another electrician coming out next week, I will have him look at t.

Your electrician probably should have clarified with you but plenty of people put 240v outlets in the garage for freezers or washer/dryers.

I check my connection for any temperature above that of the cable and conduit from time to time. And I never remove and replace the plug as I hear that cheaper retail ones can loosen over time.
