Funny you should mention that. I was getting $80 gas bills over the summer in a brand new house for a water heater that only had a pilot light on. This winter got a $400 gas bill for heating same house that I wasnt even living in. Nobody answered the customer support phone. Had to call the leak number and even then nobody answer the first couple of times. They did try and sell me gas line insurance though since I'm apparently responsible for their gas lines.

Reminded me of when I moved to San Fransisco in 2010 and this happened: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Br...line_explosion

Hope you don't end up like this mother and her 13 year old daughter but hey, no sacrifice is too great for the oil and gas industry! https://abc7news.com/archive/7660103/

And I'm supposed to worry about EV fires? Yeah, right!

LOL. I am not worried about an EV fire because I will never own one. But, before we moved into our home we extended the gas pipe (did the work ourselves). Got rid the ignorant electric stove and put in a30,000btu stove in our kitchen so we can actually cook things. Next up is to put a gas ignition into my charcoal grill. We already upgraded the electric drier to gas. Gas is FAR more energy efficient for water and clothing driers. As for the stove? I could care less as long as I can sear steaks....

Being from N. Illinois, NO ONE did not have gas heat and appliances.

Try an induction electric stove before you knock all gas cooking appliances. No noxious releases into room air, efficient in electric construction and better heat control in high and low ranges than either gas or resistance coil based electric stoves

The Amish still use a horse and buggy so it's not surprising some people wont buy an EV. As for me, I'm converting my gas dryer and gas stove to electric. My electric bills for both houses combined was less than half the gas bill at just the new one. Plus as an added bonus I won't have to worry about being vaporized in a gas line explosion. Bwahaha!

In any case, it should be clear by now that the death of ChargePoint has been greatly exaggerated... and the claim that EV sales are in decline was an outright lie.

[QUOTE=Decaffe;9124111]Try an induction electric stove /QUOTE]

that is exactly what we got rid of. I was not a fan of the limitations on the types of pants you have to use. To the fumes, just for searing smoke and steam and other things I put a massive fan in the Attic which pulls everything from the range hood out. It's like a vacuum cleaner in the ceiling of the kitchen. With or without gas and proper venting just makes the whole freaking house greasy

Well I ain't never buying a car with electronic fuel injection and an electric starter motor that's for sure! If it doesn't have a carburetor and hand crank it just can't be trusted! Got my strobe light right here for checking the timing mark on the flywheel and all I have to do is turn the distributor to adjust. No OBD tools or Star Diagnostic software required. Now that's living.

The electric car has been around for over a century. It was rightfully relegated to a place in history after it faded into obscurity. Unless all the problems with this newly resurrected old technology are addressed, it will fade back into obsolescence once again.
Now, if you were to use room temperature super magnets in motors making them extremely efficient, powerful and extremely lightweight, you would be well on your way to persuading me. If you added a fission or Mr. Fusion power plant, that essentially made the car a nuclear electric vehicle, I would be convinced.
Right now, at the current level of technology of the all electric vehicle, I am about as impressed as I am with the original all electric vehicle, from over a century ago.

What use are they? In the maybe 30 min you spend on one you hopefully get 1 percent charge. They make sense in over night parking though yet they are still woefully slow even if level 2, if its a shared one you get at best 6kw....They should have reoriented their pubkic charger business to only DC a kong time ago and just kept level 2 to home charging which they excell at. Their DC chargers are also excellent but are predomimantly of the 50kw type. in fact, tge whole kevel 1,2 and 3 charging thing is obsolete too. The levels should apply to DC charging 50, 150, and 350. AC charging should not be in the mix other than just AC.

What do you think the efficiency of an EV motor is? What do you think the efficiency of an ICE motor is?

EV motor, 80-85% converting electricity to motion. But there is inefficiency at all the points of delivery.
ICE motor 30-40%, but during winter, there is no penalty for heating the car or defrosting. Also, no other inefficiency associated with hot or cold weather.
There is some efficiency lost in delivery logistics, but I have not seen comparative studies.
I would imagine the btu efficiency of both is higher for the ICE. If for instance you took 1 gallon of gasoline to heat a boiler of water to create steam to run a steam turbine, to drive a generator, to power electric transformers to power high voltage power wires, to step down transformers, to home outlet, to EV charger to power output from EV motor might be in 2 different neighborhoods as the same gallon of gas and the route it has to take into your gas tank, to get 30-40% efficiency output.
If I was working on another advanced degree, I might perform a study and paper on it.

I could never go back to an ICE car. BEV will spoil you. Effortless constant torque without the jerky shifting and all the ancient moving parts to make the damn car move. Go drive any ICE “performance car” (911, Demon, etc) then drive a Tesla S Plaid. You’ll see why, for performance, ICE is relegated to history books and old Motortrend issues, along with the rotary engine, turbo charging, Vtec, and 4-barrels.

I’ve grown up and don’t need the performance. So I sold the Plaid and traded a second or so 0-60 for pure opulence and smooth quiet driving. I get into my wife’s Porsche, and the damn thing is so annoying with the rumbling, shifting, inefficient torque curve, etc.

As far as fusion as an energy source goes, there already is a nice fusion power plant, which is providing energy for cars everyday.

To make any comparison valid, you must compare apples to apples. Not coal to gas. Not natural gas to gas. And certainly not renewables to gas. It is obvious that at the “rubber meets the road” level, electric is more efficient. But how does each energy source get there? You have to start with the same original source of energy to compare, and then compare identical sources.
As for the fusion power plant providing power to an electric grid, fusion has been demonstrated in experimental reactors. But to my knowledge, none have achieved break even power output.

That article did do apples to apples. That was the point of the coal / gas examples. They were taking into account the energy generation efficiency piece of it and showing that even with coal powered power plants EV's were more energy efficient in units of gallons of gasoline. If solar or another renewable was used EV's would be off the charts more efficient.

On fusion power providing energy to the grid. Look up in the sky sometime.

You people spend way too much time listening to fake TV news. Here's an excerpt from ChargePoint's conference call:

EV adoption continues despite recent narratives to the contrary. According to the research firm Rho Motion, 2024 was a record year for global EV sales volume with North America up 9%. The firm's January 2025 data reported North American sales up 22% year-over-year and Europe, including the UK, up 21%.
https://seekingalpha.com/article/476...all-transcript

I feel sorry for the automakers who did a lot of rethinking and will be going out of business as a result. But that's free-market economics for ya, baby!

Agreed. It blows my mind that there are so many "car people" out there who drive EVs and then claim to still prefer ICE cars... I don't know how a real car person could get into an EV and NOT APPRECIATE the instant effortless acceleration, the response, not having a transmission in your way, having a stiffer/stronger platform and chassis with low center of gravity... The feel and experience is night and day.

To me it's like handing someone an iPhone and a flip phone and having them say yeah I still think the flip phone works better for me. Do you! Haha

Agree completely. In fact this may be anathema to my fellow Porsche-philes, but I am very seriously considering replacing my last ICE car - the Porsche 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 with the 718 Boxster EV when that comes out.

I love the ICE sports car, I thoroughly enjoy the engine and exhaust note on my 991. I don't care too much about the manual transmission thingy that some people swear on. However, I do prefer the EV for beater and commuter cars. To me, instant acceleration etc is useless most of the time. Maybe I would appreciate these when I was a teenager.

Always wanted a 911 and based on all the reports that the 991 was more of a GT I was excited to try one as I had a fair amount of seat time in a 997 and didn't care for the ride or the noise. Started it up and heard all the racket from the engine and turned it off. I'm sure I would have appreciated that more when I was a teenager.
