Emission Service Campaign

Got a notice today from MBUSA that I need an enission sticker placed in my door jam.
I setup an appointment to get it done. You think I could drive in without a 3 week wait yikes.

Can't they ship/mail it over or something, if it is a sticker why do they require an appointment? Takes like seconds unless I am missing something?

I still remember there was a tire pressure sticker recall on a different model MB before, it was this thread or maybe a similar thread but they mail the sticker over and can either have it install yourself or have a dealership do it: https://mbworld.org/forums/gle-class...l-sticker.html

Forgot to ask the obvious question, OP, do you mind posting the letter with personal information redacted? It is an electric vehicle so curious what kind of emission are they talking about. Thank you.

Yes, it's an EV so who cares. If they want to install it the next time I take it in, fine, but I won't be making a special appointment.

Do you happen to have an idea by chance what it is about? What systems are affected?

No systems. It's just a sticker that is a duplicate of one that is under the hood and because they don't want non-MB people opening the hood, they want a second sticker in the door.

I understand from "sources" that driving the car with out the sticker may cause spontaneous human combustion.....any emissions saved will be over taken in the production, distribution and placement of said sticker.....YEAH ENVIRO NUTS!!!!

Probably because there will be no guarantee that the sticker will be properly affixed to the car. This is important stuff to MBUSA, you know they don't want anyone poking around your cars innards. They only want their surgeons poking around in there.

Fair enough, no wonder there is always a lineup at the dealership.

I suspect it is needed as in some states that information is scanned as part of the emissions testing periodically required. Putting it on the inside of the hood means opening the hood where hazardous voltages are present in hybrid vehicles. Not sure why this is posted in a pure EV channel.

Assuming that having it done in person assures that it actually gets affixed to the vehicle in accordance with the law is the primary motivator. But I would be equally certain they want to see us in the service lanes for any small thing - even installing a sticker. EVs are a serious threat to service revenue and profitability - if I were a dealer principal, I would be thinking hard on how to mitigate that risk.

Fair to say as long as they get money back from MBUSA, they are willing to do it, they are more than happy to in fact.

Oh, for the love of the earth, lets have slave child labor keep producing the materials needed to "be green", what a great idea....then, when there is an issue they are simply too hazardous for a medium sized cities fire dept to safely contend with.

Ignorant. I hope the city bills the crap out of the car owner for its efforts (well, granted, they sat back and watched). Myself and thousands of others....yeah, our holiday was sure disturbed. Had this been an ICE car, 20 minutes, tops.

Stupidest service campaign in history. If they do it when it goes in for service, fine. I'm definitely not maiking a trip to get an emission sticker for a car THAT HAS NO EMISSIONS!

After a few weeks wait for my appointment date I show up 20 mins before that time to only be told one hour later by my advisor the VEC labels are not in stock. Mind you I told the service desk operator that they should ensure the labels are in before I show up for the appointment. What a disappointment I have for the dealership service department its like they are not even trying to give the customer a positive experience. Love my car but the service has been poor at best.

I dont know exact reason of the USA part but here in EU we were planning road trip to Paris, we figured to drive around hotel (or some parts of ?) in Paris you need to have an air quality sticker on the car otherwise you are not allowed to drive , maybe something similar?

Three weeks to schedule an appointment? My dealer's service department would need to keep the car 3 days to do this job.

Wow. This all sounds so ridiculous and like a waste of customer, MB and dealer time for EV's. Fortunately, no need for stickers here yet
