I thought that you were blaming the crack on a rock hitting the windshield. This sounds like a manufacturing defect. I am asking all of this because I have a similar situation with our Kia.

As for the car in the shop, the car was a few years old at that point, so out of warranty when the windscreen failed. Much easier to deal with my insurance company for the claim than try to get it out of Mercedes at that point. If it had been outside I would have suspected the sun given what happened to the rental, but this was inside overnight.

I think the exploding windshield issue on the 2022 E-Class is super rare, but I've read reports of it happening to a handful of owners in the US. From what I gathered, Mercedes has been pretty transparent about it and is honoring the warranty without hesitation, but it's still not what you want to hear when you're driving your new ride.
