From Customs to Dealer

Everywhere I look/ask, I seem to get different responses so I thought I'd try here.

My vehicle arrived in Baltimore on 12/17 and was cleared by customs on 12/19. When can I expect it to arrive at the dealer?

There doesn't seem to be a way to track the vehicle once it clears customs.

I'm in Minnesota.

Should be any day (though the holidays certainly will introduce a delay )

My timeline :
May 09 - Ship arrived in Baltimore
May 11 - Car released to VPC
May 18 - Car arrived at the dealer in Illinois

Well the car finally arrived!

Had a terrible experience throughout our European Delivery Process. I've voiced my concerns with MBUSA and hopefully they can make things right.

I am working on a write-up of our experience that I can post here at some point.

PS. I kinda have a thing for German Coupes

I'm interested to hear about the issues you had with European Delivery.

I really need advice! This is the second car I purchased through MB EDP. Last summer I picked up a 2017 S550 Cab. In October I picked up a 2018 E400 Cab. The S took one month from drop off in Frankfurt to my dealer in Florida, (port of entry Brunswick). The E I just purchased arrived in Brunswick 11/26 and cleared customs 11/28. It is now 3 weeks at VPC. There was nothing wrong with my car. Nor, are there any port installed options needed. My dealer is completely ignoring my pleas to find out the reason for the delay. My two European Delivery experiences were great. The most recent was a little more difficult. MB is no longer making arrangements. They use an outside travel agency. This agency is not knowledgeable. Any advice on how to get my car from the port to my dealer would be greatly appreciated.

My vehicle cleared customs in Long Beach, CA quickly, but took several weeks to get through the VPC and up to NorCal. On top of that, there are some VPC created issues I'm now trying to get worked out. Practically everything else about the Euro delivery experience was decent.

Bottom line - it takes a lot of patience with the VPC. The dealers seem to be in the dark too.

Thanks for responding. After numerous emails back and forth with my dealer,(useless) I decided to contact the ED dept at MB. They got my car released from the VPC this past Tu 12/19. My dealer is only 6 hrs from the Port of Brunswick. Now, it doesn’t seem to be getting on a truck. Again, no response from my dealer.

On another note my Euro delivery experiences were pretty amazing. I picked up the 2017 S Cab last year. It was delivered in The Center of Excellence. That was truly special. The standard 2018 E Cab delivery was just ok. But, both trips touring Europe in the new cars was incredible. Accommodations and food were superb. Most dealers do not have a clue on how to handle a ED car.

2017 S Cab took just 4 weeks from Germany to my dealer in FL. 2018 E Cab is now 8 weeks and counting... If they put it on a truck maybe I’ll have it in time for the New Year.

My dealer experience was quite good. In fact, probably the best I've had from start to finish. The Sales Rep proactively kept me aware of progress, details, etc. When it came to the VPC, he would call to get an update. I never had to ask.

Unfortunately, the information provided by the VPC was usually wrong or lacking sufficient detail. I can appreciate the frustration associated with lack of info. There is room for process improvement on the manufacturer side. Every experience will be different, but it seems in general people have to wait several weeks before their cars clear the VPC.

Good luck with the 2nd delivery!

Hi Moto, It was worse than pulling teeth, but I finally received my new ECab yesterday. The dealer delivered it to my door. All in all it was about 8 weeks from drop off in Frankfurt to my home. Not too bad. The trip and the car made it all worthwhile. I’d do it again. Driving a brand new MB on the Autobahn and through the German countryside is an experience all Mercedes owners should experience.

I’d love to be able to buy from Herb Haemmer the Euro delivery specialist at MB of Escondido. The problem is I always have a trade. It doesn’t pay to ship it to him from Florida in order to take advantage of the sales tax benefit. I understand he’s the best.

Thanks for for the moral support.

Enjoy the holidays.
