Thanks once again to Lisa for suggesting this location.
It seems that the lot on the "inland side of the tracks" has more space, and is much less crowded, than the "beach side of the tracks".

Here is the Coaster station itself. (note all the restaurants/bars behind in the background).



includes shade for chatting, soda machines, and public restrooms on the far end....

Now, here's a look at the parking space itself, coming in from Encinitas Blvd, making a left on Vulcan Rd, and immediately to your right, the parking will look like this:

and there's plenty of space....

this would be the NORTH side of the parking lot, that I'm suggesting to use.
Right on the corner of Encinitas Blvd and Vulcan Rd. (far right on the map below).

the Coaster & AMTRAK go by every so often....





If we can get 25-50 Mercedes-Benz / AMG's .....
That gives all the tourists on the train, something to take pictures of, as they're pulling away from the station. Some may wish they didn't get on the train !

anyway, I did also check out Moonlight Beach in Encinitas, and there's no way we could park a bunch of MB's together with all the beach crowd there.
We would have to have Carlsbadkmprssr get a tremendous hook up with the City Council to close off that whole parking lot !

Also, checked out the other Coaster Station at SOLANA BEACH, and that one is too small and too crowded, just off the 101 (Pacific Coast Highway).

So, the ENCINITAS Coaster Station is looking good.... but no one is commenting !

Carlos, thanks for the pictures!

I was looking into it and how we could possibly take some nice pictures. We could possibly park all our cars in the spaces next to the street and we could take some nice pictures standing up the stairs next to the train tracks. Who knows...I'm just weird like that.

That would be nice if you could get Carlsbadkmprssr to ask the city counsel to close the whole parking lot off.

Yeah, definitely quite a few restaurants within walking distance of the Coaster Station. The only reason, I didn't suggest the other parking lot (on the other side of the train tracks) is because it is normally full of cars which are customers of all those restaurants / bars / shops in the area.

It's looking that way. All we need now is more exposure, and for people to start hyping the meet. Need a little help from you guys !

this one is really easy.... I'll have a map and clear directions posted later on as we get closer to the day of the meet, but in the meantime, so you can program your trip computer:

- just make your way onto the 5 SOUTH
- it will be a stretch of a drive south, but you'll pass nice scenery (nuclear power plant, Camp Pendleton, ocean front homes, lagoon inlets, etc...)
- once you get past Carlsbad, be on the lookout for the Encinitas Blvd off-ramp
- get off on ENCINITAS BLVD, and head west (towards the ocean). If you hit Nevada or Arizona you went the wrong way !!
- about 1 mile off you'll get to VULCAN RD intersection. Make a left at VULCAN Rd.
- after that left, you'll see the Coaster Station parking lot on the right.
- Make a right into the first entrance. If you miss the first entrance, don't worry, there's a second entrance 150 yards down. Same parking lot.

I think we just need to be a little bit creative, and we can get some nice shots. I was thinking of also carefully (and safely) creating a chaotic MB set up where we get a cluster of cars at random angles all grouped together (kinda doing it like a multiple-car pile up on a foggy interstate), without the actual cars touching. And taking pictures from above up on those stairs. Just a idea, but we can definitely take all kinds of angled shots.

yeah. That would be for MOONLIGHT BEACH though. I don't know if he could pull that off, considering it is a very popular spot specially on a hot summer July Saturday with the beach right next to it ! We'll see what he says.

Can you get any more W124's to come down ??
or any other MB's or AMG's for that matter !

Simulated Crash Photos ... okay, I guess it would be one of the more unusual get together entertainments I've experienced We can always count on Saprissa for keeping us all from just standing there staring at our cars. Your sausages and tortillas really added an extra to the DynoDay, I'm sure this will be just as good with extra added touches

Maybe if some people have some of those little ramps people use to work on their cars you could use those to get even more interesting pics?

BBQ Anyone?

got our cars.. now we just need some eats, and possibly some beats. (anyone got a band? do we need a permit for that?)

just remember the golden rule.... NO FOOD or DRINKS or PETS or UGLY PEOPLE allowed in my car! after the windows get tinted, i will consider allowing ugly people, but still no food or drinks.

Maybe you could get the Moderator to change the title and the first post to reflect the date and time. Also, if you made this for earlier in the morning, even 9 am, you would probably be able to be down in your beach lot, like saving a group of spaces together against the super early beach arrivers, which there won't be too much of because the mass of everyone doesn't usually arrive at the beach until a bit later. Or at least in HB its like that. Of course, you will still probably have to pay for parking which I've noticed nobody wants to do at these things, plus the amount of dirt on your car after being parked next to the beach is UNBELIEVABLE - also a concern, I'm sure.

If you want a BBQ with no fee parking and without all the sand being blown on your car, isn't there a nice park you all can meet at?

I'm still maleable for change. A nice park nearby would be great too!
I think the beach is a little messy. Unless everyone wants to bring a leaf-blower and we can do it just like that old MB ML commercial, where the mom lines up all the kids on the parking lot after a day at the beach and airs them down with the blower, before they even get near the ML !
(idea: so we all stand in front of our MB's with leaf-blowers and take a group photo ! )

anyway, I'm open to suggestions from the San Diego crowd. Haven't heard much !!

Need to make a final call on LOCATION by Monday / Tuesday this coming week, so let your voices be heard now !!!

Justinius7, as for eats & beats.... I need volunteers to help set that up.
The list of attendees has the screen-name of everyone here on MBWorld, so if you want to send out PM's or e-mails to see what people can bring, etc... That would be great !
