Date has been set: Saturday, JULY 21 / 2pm-5pm
with caravans before & food-drinks after
The big hurdle is location:
A few people have suggested parking lots at BEACH sites, but it's just not feasible to set up canopy tents, DJ, BBQ and 200 Mercedes-Benz cars in a PUBLIC lot, specially @ the beach during HOT summer weekend days !
I appreciate everyone's input, but we need a bit of a reality check.
If anyone knows of any large parking lots or GREEN areas in CARDIFF / CARLSBAD / South OCEANSIDE / LEUCADIA / ENCINITAS (even if they require some sort of permit to keep the Po-Po away), please post up here, and help me get a good lay-out.
So, I need as much HELP as possible from San Diego locals to put this one together and get a good Mercedes-Benz showing.
Other things to consider:
- Dealership participation: MBSD, Hoehn, MB of Escondido, Heinz Gietz Autohaus, Symbolic.
- MBCA San Diego Section has another rally on July 21st, so possibly we can combine with that event... making it sort of a LOOOONG day !
- sponsorship or raffle prize donations from San Diego MB tuners, dyno shops, body & muffler shops, aftermarket electronics, wheels & tires, auto detailing products, etc....
- entertainment & food: DJ / BBQ / drinks / kegs / tents, tables, chairs / logistics / generator(s) /
- MBCA San Diego Section participation; MB Classic Center participation;
- Participation from special Mercedes-Benz clubs: (UNIMOG, SMART, M-100, 190SL Group, etc...)
need volunteers to help with the planning !
Please post here with concrete ideas and with committed help in setting up any of the above logistical items.
I can't do this alone, and to do it right, we need everyone to HELP !

Dang, I wish I knew SD a little better I always drive out there for work and I always come across to nice areas especially ones with HUGE parking lots but damnit I don't remember their locations, but umm where are the SD drivers and why aren't they posting up on here??....that's the strange part...

Ski Beach does not get that crowded unless it's something like July 4th weekend. I've been going there almost every other weekend the past two summers for various events or random gatherings.
Attached are some pics from the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. Notice how empty it was around noon on a holiday weekend. The rows in front the MB's were almost empty. There was a large party with huge canopies right behind the cars that spread the entire circled area in the Google Map pic. I don't see why there would be a problem if we did the same. SDPD does patrol the area and WILL ticket if someone does anything dumb but they probably deserve it for being dumb.
Cruise out there next weekend or something and explore the area yourself.

It is feasible at Ski Beach next to Sea World. I highly recommend that you check out the location before making a decision. We had a few BMW BBQ's and other Import events there in the past and everyone fits fine. You can set up the canopy tents on the grass area right next to the parking lot assuming you are a)there early enough to claim the area or b)get a permit to reserve portion of the park which will then clear your obstacle of the DJ.

Can someone help me out in reserving this spot ?
Probably will need some people to stake out the place early Saturday morning (July 21st) too, since the earliest I can get there is at about 1:30 PM.
I have a Mercedes-Benz Rally that Saturday morning, so I can't be there to reserve the spaces. Otherwise, I totally would do it.
Ling, do you have a map view of where that spot on the google pic is located ? I really like it, and hope we can make it work.
So, who's helping me ?????

1) can that section of the parking lot be reserved ? If so, can someone call the right people to reserve that spot.
2) if the spot cannot be reserved, can one or more people camp out on the place the morning of the 21st, to ensure we have it cleared out for us by 2PM ?
3) can EMPIRE RECORDS, DJ the event ? Who has a generator ???
4) I have one or two canopies I can have someone set up in the morning.
Anyone else have canopies we can set up ?
5) is there a BBQ pit near there, or do we have to bring our own ?
If so, who can bring BBQ grills ?
6) need someone to coordinate food, plates, napkins, condiments, drinks, trash, drinks, food, matches, charcoal, grills, cooking, etc.....
We can do BYOB, and then have a sign-up list for all the food-stuff. Burgers, hotdogs, steaks, sausages, ketchup, mustard, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cheese, buns, napkins, forks, knives, desserts, chips, ice, charcoal, ice, buns, etc.......
and of course, I need everyone's help in getting this event HYPED with sponsors, tuners, dealerships, MB clubs, and MB-online sites in order to get a large Mercedes-Benz turnout.
Volunteers, please reply here.....

Carlos, depending where the place is then we can discuss about doing the entertainment. Some location would need a noise permit so keep me updated!

Ling,
do you know if this particular spot on the beach requires a permit ?
I don't know that area very well.
Who controls it ?

Parks and Recreation controls that area. A permit is most likely needed.

SKI BEACH
is a NO GO for every single Saturday in June, July, August.
OK San Diego people... need you to chime in and help me find a spot.
If we can't get a spot by JUN 21st, then I have to cancel.

Mission Beach is friggin' awesome. I was out in San Diego with the Bank (Bank of America) and decided to go down there to the WaveHouse. Like an idiot, after about 10 margharitas, I thought I'd be able to do that man made wave surfing thing. Bad move. I tore my MCL and had to hobble around all week. Awesome place, nonetheless!
I wish I was out there right now, what a beautiful part of the country. You guys in Southern California have it made.

I'd love to join the pow-wow! Taking the kids to Orlando, FL. that entire week. Just got back from sunny SD and enjoyed our stay at Shelter Island - This time of the year, I try to get out of Dodge when I can get a chance.
Have a great time!
My best to all of you!

I offer up my dad's location in Newport. Well over 200-300 parking spots, good food, and no permit needed!

Carlos,
Please say it isn’t so!
I have already received the blessing from the Mrs.
She and my son were looking forward to a day at SeaWorld while we inveterate were to be eyeballing all of your recent modifications. On your turf, no less.
Would some $$ help the cause perhaps?
Please say it isn’t so!
