Feeler - 3rd Annual NJ Fishing trip
Looking for interest and opinions on whether to do a private ocean charter again this year, or change it up to a public party boat.
Cost for an open public boat is less - $40 or so with rod rental.
Cons:
You never know what kind of riff raff you have to be with for 5 hours
No control over departure time
Open boats on a summer weekend can get packed
Pros:
Cheaper per person
Brenton Jr doesn't starve because Brenton had to shell out $$ for no-shows
What say you?

I'd hate for your kids to have to go to Rutgers (or, even worse, Villanova), so I wouldn't be offended by a group boat trip. My guess is that numbers would probably be down this year anyway.

What are you guys fishing for?
I'd love to be able to schedule one of my trips to the NY office so that I can join you guys... just got two talica's as a gift... can't wait to get the line wet.

Plan B is Bluefish, which are hella fun to wrestle into the boat, but take some finesse to make tasty. No bag limit or size on those.
Plan C - bottom fishing for Blackfish and the like - not as large, but very tasty.
Plan D - whatever is biting.
Plan E - a healthy alcoholic buzz

I'd be going for sea robins, a decent buzz, and the priceless view of someone getting seasick.
My expectations are pretty low.

Striped Bass ("Stripers") are the preferred catch in terms of fight and taste, although the size regulations make that hit or miss.

Fish n Chips
I'm not much of a fisherman but am an avid druckard, "Arrrr"... I also sort of have a friend in Barnegat who runs a charter boat. If we get tired of fishing, can we go out into the shipping lanes, hoist the Jolly Roger and pirate a boatload of new AMG SLS's bound for NJ and take them up the Tom's river & divvy them up? (I want a red one).

Folks - if you want to go on this trip - you have to send in payment to Mister Brenton in advance - no ifs ands or buts. No exceptions. Period.
That way you know in advance who is in for real - and who is just talk.
If the trip is scheduled for lets say May 25 - ALL money must be IN YOUR HANDS by May 15. That way you know how many people there will be.
If the total amount is X.
You will know on May 15 how much each person's share will be because they have already sent in payment/deposit. If the amount is MORE since less people are there - the balance is to be paid upon arrival. If there is an overpayment - you will return it when they arrive.
Thats the best way - and if anyone has a problem sending in payment - then thats pretty sad if they think you are going to cheat. PS - it has to be a money order since checks can be stopped.
It sucks that it has to be like this - but I know exactly what you are talking about as we have done this before (and people not showing up DOES effect the price later).

Geez, Chucky - even Ronnie trusted people every so often. Well, when he could remember their names, of course.
Paypal would be even easier.

I need to get the rate sheet and available dates from the captain.
The problem with pay in advance is that I still wouldn't know what the per-head amount will be until everyone is accounted for, more or less. If I say $75 should cover it, and then only 6 guys send payment, there will be a rude shock on the day of the trip.

I would prefer it to be in June. I'd like a young fellow friend of mine to join. He is going to sleepaway camp in July. He's 15 - but loves to fish - and my family and his are very close friends. I hope no one has any objections. He's 6 ft 1 - and can kick the crap out of any of you....so I expect full cooperation!

Right, but if you go ahead and find out when the boat people need their money - you make sure you get all the "ins" money 10 days before. That way you know in advance what the per person cost is. Then you release the number to everyone. If people aren't cool with it - the trip's off and most importantly, you don't lose any money.
The boat requires a $300 cash deposit (non-refundable) to reserve the date.
