Bay Area GTG 8/13-8/15 (Monterey Historics, PB Concours)

What: Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races
When: August 13th-15th
Where: Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey
Why: Cause unless you own a time machine, you will never ever see cars like the following driven the way they were meant to be driven--in anger:

1930 Alfa-Romeo 6C
1925 Bugatti T-35
1955 Porsche 550 Spyder
1954 OSCA MT-4 to be driven by Sir Stirling Moss
1939 BMW 328 (perhaps the most beautiful BMW ever created)
15, that's right, 15 Ferrari 250 GTOs on the track at once
All manner of 356 Carreras and Abarths
Aston Martin DB4 GT
and of course more than a couple Gullwings and 300SL Roadsters

And tons and tons of purebred racers from F1, to the Ford GT-40, 1975 BMW 3.5 CSL, Porsche 917K, and Ferrari 512s

What: Pebble Beach Concours D'elegance
When: 15th 10:30-4:30PM
Where: The 18th Fairway at Pebble Beach
Why: Because this is the Superbowl of Concours Events, and you like cars that cost more than all of your organs put on ebay.

All in all, these two events represent the most important Car hobby gatherings in the US and are among the greatest car events in the world (Perhaps the Goodwood Festival of Speed and the Louis Vuitton Classic are their only rivals).

If you have any inklings of car love, you should make it out there at least once. I'll for sure be going to the Monterey Historics all weekend, but I'm not so sure that I'll be hitting up the Concours, as I've got a real interest in seeing the FIA prototypes and GT cars on Sunday at Laguna. But if there's adequate peer pressure, I can be convinced. Also, a three day pass for the races is only $95, while the one day Concours is $125 (hefty, but it's all for charity, so don't trip!). I know that Mr. Vanos (and maybe some of the other Evosport boys?) as well as a few other forum members will be attending the Concorso Italiano. Ingenere will be coming from AZ, and Keista from LA. Perhaps I'll see a few MBWorlders while I'm out there?

So holler if you're going!
