According to Autospies the Gelaendewagen will be getting a fresh makeover and will make it's debut in September at the Paris Auto Show. The G will be getting a new interior and a seven speed transmission.

I think we'll see a G550 with the new V8, a GL55 AMG with the revised 5.5 supercharged V8 from the 07's SL55 AMG with the full 510hp instead of 469hp. The G will finally dump the 01' C-Class/03' CLK interior furnishings and go with something from the E or even perhaps the S-Class. DVD based nav and the Comand system from the SL. There should be some tweaks to the lights/bumpers too and finally there should be new G320 and G420 diesel models for Europe.

The car could use some updates to "freshen" up the look; more power is always welcome. But they must retain the hard core old school tank look. IMHO, that is what makes a G Class a G.

Im guessing it will have an interior more along the lines of the Current ML and GL.

We'll see. I think they're very limited by the hardpoints of the antique of a structure the G has. It will be interesting to see what they can come up with.

The engine and transmission are welcome changes.

However, I think it desperately needs:
1) New interior... not the C/CLK stuff (the G wagen is an $80k+ car!)
2) Xenon/Bi-Xenon headlights....

I agree. They need to raid the S-Class/CLS parts bin if they aren't going to design something unique for the G. Budget says they'll likely just raid the parts bin for such a low volume vehicle, but still the C/CLK stuff didn't look right. Whoever at MB designed the 01' C-Class speedo should have been taken out back and horse whipped!

I wonder how they got Bi-Xenon headlights for the car? I'm guessing they must use Bi-Xenon projectors?...

The G must look pretty funny with two tiny projectors inside the round headlights.. but what do I know

......some G55's already have bixenons. ART tunning in Germany made these and various vendors sell them.

.....the DVD nav is no suprise.

......what is not correct on that page is the suggestion of the supercharged G55 in combination with the new 7 speed tranny. This information is either incorrect or the torque limitation of the 7 speed tranny has been solved......this of course would have been major news given its implications for a more powerful 6.3L AMG engine in the E, CL, CLS, SL, and S class.

I think the article stated that the 7-speed tranny would be in the G3xx and G500 -- not in the G55.....

...........below are the quotes from the website. It lumps the G500 and G55 in the same category when discussing the 7 speed tranny. It definitely does not state that the G55 will not be getting the 7 speed.

The MBUSA Press Release was specific in mentioning that only the 'lesser' models get the 7-speed:

The G 320 CDI and the G 500 will be equipped with the seven gear 7G-Tronic automatic gearbox as standard.

In the link they list changes as the 7-speed tranny now comes in the G-Class as standard -- yeah, in the G320 CDI and G500 -- I guess the guys in that link lost it in the translation....

Somewhere else I read of the 2007 G55 changes - not as many as I had hoped -- but enough.

I am hoping that we do indeed see it here in the USA in September.

If they do bring the G320 CDI/Bluetec to the states, I'd break down the door to get one.

The are most probably going to round the corners, look at the new s and the coming CL. And honestly, I think they should keep the G the way it is and not mess it up. Besides, it is the ultimate offroading vehicle, even though the G 55 is a big waste of money, it is still fun for offroading
