Why did you buy your G?
Here's why I did - it's a true story.
I was in Scotland several years ago shooting. It was the year of the mad cow scare and it had been raining for weeks - every field and meadow seemed to be underwater.
I was at a shoot and there were several vehicles transporting the party to the covers. The first, a Misubishi Montero 4x4 or whatever they call it in Europe, entered a bog that was usually passable and promptly, well, bogged down. So my friend Derek took his Range Rover and drove around the bog - it took quite awhile he had to go back lanes and backed up to the Mitsu. They waded out and put a chain on the back bumper to the front bumper and then they both got stuck. After removing the chain Derek couldn't get the Rover out.
So they got on the mobile and called the farmer to bring a tractor but it was in pieces or something.
Then this sweet thing who looked like the singer Kate Bush pulls up in a G wagen. Double trouble! Of course she offered to help and the elderly shoot captain, very nice man, says to me "William you're an American. You cowboys must know how to deal with such things. Borrow my niece's truck. Give it a go!"
No gentleman would turn down such an invitation! So I checked out Kate and the G and saw that it actually had proper tires. She got in next to me and gave me the owners manual so I read up on the locking diffs and so on.
To make a long story short I backed the G up to the Rover and Derek attached the chain to the two vehicles, got in, I moved the G forward and as soon as the chain went taut he gave the RR gas in 2nd gear and the G pulled it out very smartly.
We did the same thing with the Mitsu and went on to the shoot. It was a good shoot, and I'll leave the post-shoot festivities to the reader's imagination!
So when I returned home I had to get a G to replace my Tacoma.

Because in 1983 I wanted one to be able to get to places in Utah and Arizona that my 280SE4.5 could not.

Why the G? I just always wanted one. I had a diecast G when I was little - always thought it was cool.
Picking mine up (2008 G500, silver) in a week or so ... trading in my 2006 C4S cab. Just wanted something different for a change!![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
