Door Unlocking Problems - Chronic

Do people have chronic problems with their (electronic) door unloocking systems?
One example:
The automatic door unlocking feature acts up in one way or another every 5k-10k miles . The symptom is that the electronics release the vertical buttons, but neither the exterior or the interior latch will open the door. Sometimes the system has to be "reprogrammed" and it works fine but read on:
There is a plastic clip, SPECIFICALLY EXCLUDED FROM THE EXTENDED WARRANTY (that covers the electronic locking,) that breaks when the latch is pulled on or just wears out over time and fails. It is a dollar part but because it fails it is seen as the cause of the failure and MBUSA will not cover the electronics repair under warranty.
I am getting a bit peeved at these doors. They all failed was last week when I was burying my sister and we were at the cemetery. I had to enter the car through the rear door!
I was told with the new Comand system in the G500/G55 after 2004 the electronics in general and the door problems went away - anyone know about this?
