'04 G500 question on the "sliding/pop-up roof"

I noticed this paragraph in the Operator's Manual:

"With the roof closed or tilted open, a screen can be slid into the roof opening to guard against sun rays. When sliding the roof open, the screen will also retract."

Maybe I'm crazy but what "screen" are they referring to? I bought my G500 used so maybe it is missing? Or are they talking about some optional MB accessory part? I'm pretty sure the "sliding/pop-up roof" doesn't function as a "moonroof" at all, correct?

Sounds like a mistake copying and pasting from the user manual of another Mercedes vehicle. AMG does offer a custom glass sunroof (moonroof) for the G-Class, but that is a custom order and requires the vehicle to be shipped to them. Doubt the user manual is referring to that.

Does anyone know if the glass sunroof can be installed in a base model G500? Mine is broken, and the shop is quoting me over $4500 to replace it because they want to buy a new OEM one. I'm wondering if I can get a glass one instead and have them put that in...

Yes. Sort of. There is at least one other member on the ClubG forum that did this also. I want to as well as I really like glass roofs. I'll start doing my research and shopping this summer as my headliner has to come out.

Did you have any issues with the install? I would like a glass roof and don't mind wrenching but worried about damaging the headliner.
