W463 G-class head unit fiber optics
Does anyone know FOR SURE if a 2003 G55 (w463) with the factory head unit has regular signal wires going to the amp or if it is D2B fiber optic from the audio to the amp?
I am looking to change the navigation head unit to an aftermarket (OEM look) from Dynavin and need to know the answer to this question in order to determine which one to get.
Thanks!

let me know when you get an answer on this and how it goes. I just ordered a unit for my truck; however, I think I am going to cancel the order.
All of these units are made in china, and if you know anything about chinese tech support- it doesn't exist. I ordered my unit 3 weeks ago and have had some women with a fake american name asking me the same generic question regarding and "optic fiber amplifier". no matter how intelligent of a response I give from any of the mercedes technicians I have spoken to, I keep getting the same generic reply as if im talking to a robot. The problem is that anybody over there can buy these units wholesale in bulk for a few hundred dollars a unit, so the language barrier has obviously been an issue.
I have been told though that if you do have fiber optics that you need to bypass the current amplifier from Harmon Kardon and use the one built into the head unit (I feel like that will sound like absolute garbage). I am still looking for somebody to confirm this, but its been weeks passing and at this point I think I just want my money back.
if you get this done, or hear from anybody else how it is please let me know ASAP. I would love to do something with my factory navigation, Mercedes makes terrible nav units.

I can understand your desire to upgrade the COMAND to something more modern, but there are no good options at the moment. On the surface the solution from Dynavin looks compelling, but you will be sorely disappointed even if you manage to get it integrated. It's based on Windows CE 6.0, rather than the far more capable Windows Embedded Automotive 7 that powers Ford/Nissan/Fiat/Kia systems. Such an "upgrade" will also impact (negatively) the resale value of your car.
