Got our first G500 in today
We got our first hands-on look at a G500 today. It was driven by a Mercedes-Benz factory rep to our dealership. Pulled it into the shop, put it up on the hoist, technicians swarming all over it, inside and out. I have mixed feelings about it. The underhood setup is certainly nice. The spark plugs don't look to be nearly as hard to get out as they are on the ML430. The A/C evaporator looks like it can be removed without taking the dashboard out (a major relief for us). Solid axles, front and rear with 3 locking diffs. Heated front and REAR seats, with the switches for the rear seat heaters located on the B-pillar posts. CD changer looks to be in a very vulnerable spot in the left quarter panel, level with the cargo floor. Loose items could surely whack the CD changer on turns. LOTS of headroom. Has the instrument cluster and climate control system straight out of the C240. Didn't get to drive it on the road, just around the lot. I have a feeling many people are going to be complaining of wind noises and rattles in this vehicle, because they expect it to be like their S-class. Realize, this vehicle has been around since the Seventies. Overall, it's a nice vehicle, and I'm sure they'll sell faster than we get em in.

At least they aren't as bad as BMW dealers. I saw one dealer asking $40k over MSRP on an M3...
