G463 320 I6 petrol engine, MY1996
IR key, immobiliser and lock issues

Hi,

I am new to this forum but not new to G Wagon. I've been driving a G463, with the I6 petrol engine G320, mo0del year 1996 for the last 3 years. I currently live and work in Rwanda, enjoying fantastic safari and expeditions in the region (Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Uganda, RDC...).

Well, I've been struggling with the IR Key & Immobilizer system. The issue being that on this model year the immobilizer engages/disengages exclusively via the IR key knob (system with the red & green lights on the rear mirror). If I lock the car with the IR remote (engaging the immobilizer) and the IR key lets me down I am pretty much (not saying the f word). Well, both IR Key are letting me down, sadly.

I now would like to know the procedure to move the LH side door key lock to the RH side door, and thus operate the central locking via the key hole on the driver door. This would bypass the immobilizer (keep it always disengaged) and I will be an happy men.

Or does anyone has an alternative solution? Talking with the local MB dealer, they cannot guarantee that a new key would actually work (yes, they are pretty much hopeless). I changed batteries, re-sync the key, and even send a key for repair in Germany.

Help?

Tommaso

Hi Tommaso
Locks are interchangeable, will work like you want. But central locking work only if you unlock/lock at driver side.
