Gulf spec G63

Im moving to Abu Dhabi and my wife wants a G63.

Does anyone factually know what the differences are in a U.S. Spec G63 vs a Gulf spec.
I can ship one vehicle for free but I would need to wait 2-3 months for it to arrive in UAE. If I buy one in UAE I don't want the hassle of selling it so I would prefer to ship back to the states once our contract is completed (2-6) years.

All you need to do is swap the speedo to show km/h. Otherwise no changes are required. Keep the old speedo and swap it back when you head back to the US.

Personal import into the U.S. will not require the speedometer to be changed.

Does the 13 G you own swap Km to Mph on the dash?

I do not know if a gulf spec has different bumpers supports, catalytic convertors and so on.

Unless I'm mistaken on the import rules, import of a G bought in Abu Dhabi into the USA when you return would require buying one that's at least 25 years old.

I don't think that applies to a personal car he shipped from the USA and is shipping back when returning.

Right, but one of the options sounded like buying a car there and then bringing it back when he returns. Doing that would most like be a huge hassle at best.

I need to call MB and ask if they would provide a letter of conformity, a gulf spec G. This is far down the road. We won't be getting to UAE until later this year and we have 2-6 years we will be assigned to Abu Dhabi.
I would prefer to buy one in Abu Dhabi so we don't have to wait for shipping and warranty is covered. I just assumed that selling one down the road could be a hard and a hassle I would prefer to not deal with.

I would think that selling one bought in Abu Dhabi when you return would be a LOT easier than trying to legally bring it back with you. If you really want to buy once, I suspect your best option is to buy it in the USA and ship it over, assuming you won't run into similar problems bringing a US spec vehicle there with you.

It's pretty easy to take it over. The U.S. is a pain with the dot rules and epa rules on bringing cars into the U.S.

I used to live in Dubai for 6 years, and considered shipping one of my cars back with me to the States. I didn't do it...

- GCC Spec difference is only the KPH Cluster, and Arabic Language Side Mirrors
- To ship/register a GCC Spec Car (or any Grey Market Car) back to the US, it HAS to at least be 25 Years Old
- Definitely bring a US Spec G63 with you to AD, as you don't have to do anything to make it road legal, except show the Digital KPH in the cluster when you renew registration once/year
- Consider Selling the G63 when you leave AD; their values are very strong for second hand/used G's there

Let me know if you have any questions about it. I tried for months, going through different channels to bring this baby back here with me, but I did not succeed:

Good to know. Did you speak with any RI (registered Importers) about bringing the BMW in?

All I needed to bring a car into the U.S. from Canada was a letter from the manufacturer.
I was hoping it could be the same. I really have no leg work to do it's my agency doing all the paperwork.

What about the transmission cooler, along with the AC unit and radiator? All the same?

My Brother bought a Chevy Silverado brand new in Dubai, and decided to ship it back to the US with him when he returned. Chevrolet refused to give him any sort of letter to help him import it to the US.

By sheer luck and gift of the gab, he was able to get a DMV girl in California to swing some paperwork somehow, and he got it registered in California, and now has it legally registered in Hawaii.

It is almost impossible, so if your company is giving you one vehicle allotment to be shipped from the US, just bring one with you overseas.

in regards to Transmission Cooler/AC, it is all the same (to my knowledge). There are many varying reports online, and I was never able to get a "true/verified" answer, even the shop I used to take my BMW's/MB's to couldn't give me an official answer.

I owned a lot of GCC Spec high-performance cars, and shipped some European Imports over from Japan (super cheap/low KMS/awesome condition), and never had any issues with the engine/transmission/etc...

G Wagons, and Classic Cars were starting to make a comeback when I left in 2013, however you are better off to buy from Japan to resell in UAE, as they are very cheap with low KMS.

Thank you for all the info I'll owe you a bottle.

Wife is set on the G I'm pretty open to what will be my DD. I'm all over the place looking at C63,E63S estate, GT350R, Rs5 or maybe a built Patrol.

I was in Okinawa in 03-04 had a 1990 fair lady (300zx) I loved, maybe bring one over to the UAE find a 94 twin turbo four seater make sure to meet the 25 year rule after being there 2 years.

Dibblze has a 01 RS4 avant that can be shipped in using a RI I would love to bring back to the states. Just finding a honest RI can be a joke.

A shipping container can't be that much get a 53 footer and bring home a garage full.

I'm keeping a 05 Excursion 6.0 that's fully built at diesel performance shop for the time we are in the UAE.
