How to install newer steering wheel to G500?? Please help

hey guys, i am looking at getting a newer steering wheel for my 2002 G500 because my current steering wheel is very worn out and wood is cracking. i really like the 2003-2007 or 2008-2012 steering wheels for the G class. i was wondering if its possible to do. if so, i am guessing you need to weld the wires together since its not plug and play and what about the air bag? please help

Thats a beautiful steering wheel, I've seen some youtube videos from russia of them installing and showing the w205 steering wheel. i would do it, but that steer ing wheel is pretty expensive and especially the airbag. Also, I'm afraid the ECU will show error messages. thats why I'm choosing the older model steering wheels, and i will customize it with piano black wood.

they basically weld the wires or internally swap. would you think its possible to do it yourself? I'm pretty good with welding wires, but i wouldn't want to take a chance and buy the steering wheel. curious

I can't answer that question. I wouldn't do it myself. It seems like they know what they're doing from experience so there might be more to her than just swapping out the internals. I sent them my window switches as well and it wasn't a simple swap, they had to install some resistors because of different voltage.... something like that....

what do you think about the older model steering wheels I'm thinking about installing? is there much difference in wiring from 2002?

Have you checked wire connections on those other steering wheels? They might be the same and might not require any modification.

Hey KH, do you think its possible to install an AMG supercharger into the G500's engine? Is there space? do i remove anything from the engine and replace it with the supercharger? i would really love to do this upgrade, especially since i can find a great price on a supercharger nearby. Thanks!

There are plenty of vehicles with the M113 engine, not just G's. Take a look at the CLK and E clas forums on this board, people have done it. Not really worth it, better off just selling the G and getting another one, unless you do the work yourself.

Either way, it's been done, search the boards.

Have you thought about getting an OE tune for your car? Also, are you looking for a G55 or the G55k?

i was thinking about getting an ECU tune on it, its pretty much $300 for 20 more horsepower, just not worth it. and I'm looking for a basic G55. thanks

Good luck with the search, I would think there's some good G55s to choose from in CA. There's a local one here in MI, 2003 G55, one owner, midnight blue, for $26k but the car has rush already showing around the windshield/door windows.

Honestly I do not know. I'm not very savvy in the engine department. I do think it's possible, I just don't know the details and I think it involves more than just putting a supercharger on top of the engine, there is additional cooling, plumbing and wiring that's involved. Not something I would tackle by myself.

You either have to purchase a complete AMG donor car or go aftermarket.

Do you know the part number for your original steering wheel? Is yours in good enough shape to restore?

Did you ever get a chance to complete the steering wheel upgrade? My 2002 wheel looks like most used part on the car
