Turbo Diesel G-Class Thread; especially upgrading/fixing 2002 models
In most of the world MB offered turbo diesel w463 models. These are mostly the same as their gas powered brothers but there are some differences.
There is a growing number of owners of these models here on the forum and this thread is meant to be a place for us to talk about the specific aspects of these vehicles. Many of the parts that we need are only available in Europe. Many of us live in Latin America, Middle-East, or Europe.
In my case, I bought my 2002 G270 cdi in Nicaragua from the original owner. He had driven it hard on dirt roads and off road and he had towed a boat trailer. So it has needed a lot of minor part replacement. I'll post pictures. But like many of us with 2002's we want to upgrade some components to newer MB parts or other. I hope that gas-powered friends also chip in and contribute on the thread.
SPECIAL NOTE: SHIPPING - In many smaller countries, especially in the Caribbean and Latin America our MB dealerships have little experience with the G-Class and we end up doing much work ourselves. We also have to buy parts in other countries, ship them in and pay significant shipping and customs duties. I would imagine that this will be a recurring theme in this thread. How to do this well and how long it takes will be themes.
