As the title states, I'm looking to purchase a G wagon in the near future. I'd like to know if I would be better off getting a g500 or a g55? I'm looking to spend about $45k, I've seen a lot of 500s but only few 55k's with reasonable miles (below 80k). Most are MY 2003-2008 the 55's being 2003-2006 including the 55NA/55k's. What do you guys think would be the best to purchase? It will be a daily in South Dakota, so it will see -20 sometimes and about 30 inches of snow a year. I want something that can handle the climate and that is why I'm stuck on the 55 I'm afraid with the sport oriented tuning it wouldn't fair as well as the 500(correct me if i'm wrong). I've always loved the AMG cars but, not sure if they'd love it up here in SD. Let me know your opinions, thanks!

Based on your intended use as a daily driver and given the climate you are living in, I would think you would be well suited with a G500. Not to disparage the G55 but in your case I would think the simpler the truck the better off you will be. You can also expect the inventory of G500's will be much greater allowing you a better chance of finding a unit that meets your specifications for condition, mileage, color and equipment. These vehicles were never designed to be high performance trucks in the first place. Search for the latest, highest quality MY you can afford.
Best of luck with your search. Let us know how you make out.

They’ll both perform equally well.
