My G550 arrival in DFW
I just wanted to share my new G550 in Brilliant Blue. I took delivery on the 6th, after a six month wait. It is everything I expected and more. It is so much more refined than my 2014, but still feels solid and capable; the marriage of a Unimog and an S class! This is the only Mercedes that I would rather have the non-AMG version, although I do plan to drive one, when I have a chance. I want to install more aggressive tires, but if I go more than a half inch taller, it may not fit in the garage!

I was referring mostly to the old model. After having owned a 2014 G550 and test driving several G63s, I found the G550 a much more balanced machine. The G550 also beats the 63 in off-road performance. You can't put 18" rims with off road tires, since it has larger brake rotors. Also, the old 63 is heavier in the front, with a stifer suspension.
Don't get me wrong, I love power! Now, on the new one, I will have to drive one. There might be a much bigger performance spread. Most of the "enhancements" though are superfluous, except the 360 camera; wish mine had that. It really is a personal preference. Of cource, there is always the, "if money is no object, why the heck not?"...

I’ve driven both and bought the ‘19 G550. The steering on the ‘18 left a bad lasting impression. Th interior is also much more integrated both in form and function. Now that I have the ‘19, I love to find a older G Professional for some serious (think flip over risk) off-road fun.
