It's true that you can't blame the dealership for charging over MSRP, however, when shady sales tactics are employed and you are lied to blatantly, it pisses people off.
I would assume that people who are buying a G class are generally not stupid. The salesmen lied repeatedly and treated me disrespectfully right when I started to express interest in a G63.
I e-mailed Fletcher Jones of Fremont (northern California) and they told me that I would be able to get a G63 at MSRP if I was added to the wait list. They told me I had to drive in to reserve it. I did just that, and then several days later, they tried to sell me a marked up G63. Then, they proceeded to tell me that I was on the wait list for a *chance to buy* a G63 at over MSRP!! It was infuriating.
I ended up ordering form a dealership in a different state and I will be shipping the car over.
The only thing I wish I did was read this post earlier.

I have called approx 30 dealers over the last week and NOT ONE is at MSRP. My local has a year wait on a 550. The 550's are not selling at MSRP unless you ordered it.

The new models are still tough to get. You can get lucky on timing, but if you want one at MSRP, you will need a relationship with a MB dealer. Remember, even with the previous models, brand new one didn't sit long at the dealerships and you didn't have a lot of choices. Remember, the Gwagon is still a low production vehicle for MB.
AMG models make up the bulk of G-Class sales in the U.S. For 2017, Mercedes-Benz sold 4,188 examples, an increase of 6 percent from the previous year. This was also the first time the G-Class broke its annual threshold of 4,000 units since it arrived in 2001. For comparison, in 2018, Daimler's passenger car manufacturing subdivision sold around 2.4 million vehicles.

1. In Canada you buy at MSRP across the board. No one charges over MSRP at least not the province where I live.
2. We have another issue with middlemen stepping in from “certain countries” buying cash and then shipping them and making much over initial MSRP
3. To counter this MB Canada will not sell cash purchase and only finance.
4. When we stop selling to middlemen, maybe the US will stop asking over MSRP.
5. Price of a G wagon in some countries is well over 100K above MSRP, hence the middlemen.

No one should waste their time calling up/down the West Coast - lowest/"best" upcharge in the West for a 550 in Jan was about $15K - you pay to play as they would say.
If you wanted a G550 "today" - I would say your best bet would be to call Texarkana TX or Charleston WV - see if their website give you colors/features and MSRP - THEN make the call.
If you're "cash ready" - please understand there is a HIGH EXPORT ALERT - so put aside all cash - offer $5K deposit by credit card - total 20% down - and offer to finance balance with Mercedes Financial.
Not real rocket science - going into the last days of the month a B or C dealer will want to punch/sell the G.
There are those too who like to discuss buying a G.... MB is doing the right thing and not flooding the market .. they're forced to Steyr?G has historical production limitations

I'm sure everyone here will pay MSRP for a new C class right? No... Because the market value is 15%+ off MSRP. The MSRP is the "suggested retail price". In California the market for a G63 is 25k+ over MSRP. Dealers cant get enough of them. Everyone on here has some moral objection to paying over sticker but doesn't have a problem getting a huge discount on a regular model. You can't complain about the markup until you are willing to pay MSRP on everything. All this being said, you can definitely get one for sticker outside of CA. Just takes some work on the phone.
