Big dilemma , my 2016 G63 or change to 2019 G500 (G550 in the US)
Hi All ,
i recently sold my 2016 Porsche Targa 4s and bought a 2016 G63 AMG , I live in Israel and prices of cars are more than double what you would pay in Europe or the US.
Getting a new 2019 G class is close to impossible unless you are willing to wait more then a year...
I found the only 2019 G500 up for sale with 1500 miles on it , well specced.
I am not sure if I should change my G63 AMG 2016 for a new G500 2019 ,
would you consider it an upgrade ? I love the power of my G63 and the AMG interior and exterior touches .
Please help me decide as the G500 I found won’t be up for sale very long .
Just drive the MY '19 and I think you will answer your own question. The comfort and handling characteristics are like night and day. Some may like the characteristics of the older model but for my money the MY '19 is so much better. I just turned in my MY '16 and can't wait to take delivery of the new G550. Best of luck with whatever you decide. Just out of curiosity, how much is a new G where you are?

Fly to Germany and rent one from sixt. Check out the main mb dealer in Munich or Berlin. Pretty cool and amazimg.
How are your import laws?
You can only import vehicles that are max one year old or old timers 30 years old , nothing in between , import tax is around 120% of sticker price , biggest issue is no warranty , and value at resale of imported cars are around -30% , imported cars even have a special license plate ...
Do the test drive. You will be pleasantly surprised, especially given the fact that you can't test drive at a dealer. Best of luck. Let us know the outcome.
Reading some of the answers to the OP is interesting. I test drove a 19 G550 back to back with a CPO 18 G63. After the drive I bought the 18. I wasn’t overwhelmed by the 19at all. Each to his own though I suppose.
I made the switch from 15 G63 to the 2019 G550. The 19 has more tech, more room & more comfort features. The 15 G63 had more ***** and sounded better. I have the sport exhaust on the 2019 G550, when you put it in sport, you can hear it a little more than when I’m comfort and being 9 gears you hear the downshifts more often than 15 G63. If it’s a daily driver i’d say get the new one. If not keep the 16. Also if you have to pay much more for the 19 I wouldn’t do it unless money isn’t an issue in which case get a 2019 G63 and that will be the perfect solution.

Kind of amazing, but of the thousands of online photos around the release of the new G-wagen, spanning ~2 years now, I have found only one photo of the rear compartment. Clearly the jumpseat question will present new challenges. credit: automobilemag.com
