MY2020 G63 Black Roof F85 Option Is Incompatible with Night Package!

So, my 2019 G63 order was formalized into a MY2020 G63 today, and I now have a verified build sheet in hand, with no red option conflict flags. Early Oct 2019 build timeframe, and delivery probably before Thanksgiving. Yahoo! There is now some light at the end of the tunnel.

I opted for the F85 optional obsidian black roof with Jupiter Red (not sure why this color costs $6,500, but that's another story). I also opted for the AMG Trail Package, with the 20 inch wheels, with AT tires.

Anyways, I really wanted to add the Night Package, or perhaps Night Package Plus. My salesman said it kicked it out, because he says if you order the F85 obsidian black roof, it nixes the AMG Night Package, and/or the Night Package Plus. If I bag the F85, then the order is OK with the Night Package, and/or Night Package Plus, no problemo.

BTW, I also ordered the RB5 spare wheel painted in vehicle color, but even if I eliminated this, it still kicked out the Night Package. Eliminating the AMG Trail Package also did not alleviate the Night Package issue with the obsidian black roof. Arrrgggghhhh.....

One piece of good news is the speed delimiter package is OK with the pretty aggressive looking AT tires, which is a bit surprising.

Can anyone please verify the obsidian black roof nixing the night package phenomenon?

Isn’t that because the black roof comes with night package plus?

No, my salesman said F85 is incompatible with either night package, and sure enough, my build sheet does not show NP or NP+ with my F85 obsidian black roof option.

The night package includes black wheels and black bulbar and The night package plus includes the black roof with black fenders and black bulbar and black wheels but so they would kick out with the AT wheels that do not come in black. My guess you have to eliminate both the AT package and the black roof in order to add either of the night packages.

If you have the Night package plus selected, delete the F85 option. Night package plus includes the black roof. F85 is a standalone option so there was be a code conflict.

Looks like selecting the AMG Trail Package nixes any night package because the included 20 inch Trail wheels are not all black.

I sure wish the AMG Trail Package would also include the new 4.0L straight-6 diesel. If MBUSA does this at any point in the future, I’ll be trading in my 2020 G63 in about one picosecond flat, if even that much of a delay!

My wife says she has a better plan. Says I should instead buy the 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon with its new diesel (442 heart hammering ft lbs torque at 1400 RPM), with its stock OEM 33 inch MT Mudders, and revert back to my original specs on my 2020 G63, with the black 22 inch wheels running stock summer rubber, and stop daydreaming about driving a $200,000 car out in the boondocks. She says get the Jeep, and do it right for off-road fun, reserving the G63 for local tooling around town, on nice paved streets. Truth be told, I think she’s right.

Got to do this quickly, though. My dealer says MBUSA has very recently changed its equation as of MY2020 G63’s, in that once a production date is secured, you have maybe 2 weeks, if even that, before the order specs are completely frozen and locked down, with no changes allowed after that point. In the old days (like for the 2019 G63), he said you had a good bit more time to make changes to your specs after receipt of a production date He says this has now just recently changed, and big time.

Thats strange. I have a sept built with trail package and night package with 21" all black wheels. This follows the euro specs where the 20" trail package can be deleted or vice versa.

Tried to add in an amg steering wheel button option U88 but was told the specs are frozen. What a bummer.

I think you can possibly order the NP or NP+ with the TP, but only if you spec an all black wheel option. But, IMHO it largely defeats the purpose of the new TP, because that 21 inch all black wheel will have the summer rubber on it. Not so good for off-road use.

As I understand it, the only way to get the AT tire equipped from the factory (which looks to have a nice aggressive tread on it), is with the 1) TP, plus spec’ing the 2) new 20 inch RG7 partially black wheels. Since the all new for MY2020 RG7 wheel is unfortunately only partially black, Mercedes will not allow the NP with this particular wheel (and more importantly, the AT tire). With the TP and the 21 inch all black wheels equipped with summer tires, I believe you can order the NP/NP+, and you will get the new off-road suspension system that comes with the TP, but what’s the use going into any sort of rugged off-road environments with summer tires?

Personally, I don’t want to start playing the game of mounting and experimenting with various non-OEM AT tires on 21 inch wheels, and getting into the whole mess of scraping tires on the inside of wheel wells, odometer/speedometer miscalibrations, etc. That can be fun to play those sorts of games with older G63’s that have seen their hay-day, but I don’t want to get into those headaches from the get-go with a brand spanking new $200,000 car.

Too bad MBUSA will not allow the NP to be spec’ed with any wheel that is not 100% black, but I will gladly trade-off the NP looks to get the advantage of having the complete TP, and factory equipped with AT tires.

I think I’ve finally settled on the best solution for meeting my new car toy needs: get the 2020 G63 with the TP and RG7’s equipped with the AT tires, and snag me a MY2021 Jeep Wrangler with the new diesel option, and OEM 33 inch MT mudders, and play with the Jeep for serious off-road fun! My wife told me she bets my G63 will stay in our garage 98% of the time, all clean and shiny, whilst I play with the Jeep. She’s probably going to turn out to be correct in this prognostication, too!

I was able to order TP (with 20 inchers) & NP.
Question: I did forgo heated steering wheel bc I read it deletes some u88 button. Does anyone know what that is ?

I’m not familiar with the new steering wheels. Are you referring to the “star” button on the right side (toggle down)?
So does that mean the star is replaced by a heated steering wheel emblem/function? Heated button used to be part of column adjustment stalk.
